Mixing lights? HPS and T5?

Im growing clones in my garage for my outside medical (Legal grow)

A guy said I could mix in the T5 lights with the 1000 watters and make a broad light spectrum.

Is this a good idea or should I buy more 1000 watt lights?

and t5's are great for clones and seedlings, and 100o watters are way overkill for them.. if you want to get more 1000 watters for veg or even flower, that's good, but i wouldn't get any for a seedling / clone / mother plants.. t5's will do you just fine, and adding them to the 1000 watter will do exactly watt the guy told you, increase the spectrum of light that your plants get..

I was just doing some research on this exact topic...what I've found is get a dimming 1000 watt system and during the infancy and growing phases you can knock the 1000w back down to 50% output and utilize the HPS system with a blue spectrum bulb and let your t5 system handle the rest of the spectrum. Then once you get to flowering, etc...you can crank it up to 100%, switch your bulb and BAM. I could be totally wrong, I'll let you know how these six plants turn out. If someone else has a suggestion feel free to fill me in!

You are. About nearly all of of what you said. HPS is red heavy, not blue. The T5 might handle the rest of the spectrum - if he has the right temp bulbs. And you want red-heavy light for flower. Blue enhances vegetative growth.
