mixing potting soil and ground soil in containers?

I am running out of money to spend so i can buy too much potting soil so will it be alright if i take some of the soil from the ground and mix it with the potting soil i bought? If i can do this is there anything i should check for in the soil from the ground?

ya you can do this just make sure the soil smells nice and clumps together when squeezed and crumbles when loosed up.

yeah there's a good chance there's locked up nutrients in your dirt, it was just too compacted.

just mix it well, if you have compost or manure that will help as well.

OK so should i do the crumble and loosen thing with only the ground dirt or when i mix it? or both to be safe?

50/50 only if it has a nice loose consistency . . . . . do more of the soft one than the other if it doesn't have the right consistency . . .

The dirt is actually really good. There is alot of vegitation in the same area and around it. Also alot of dead leaves fall and decompose so im guessing the dirt has to have some nutes and cant be that bad if tons of plants and trees can survive. Thanks for all the help guys =)

yep that sounds like great stuff, I'd say mix that 50/50 because it sounds hella good, but you'll be able to tell just by the feel of it I hope.
