Moisture Control Soil?

Hey guys I just planted some seeds in this "moisture control" soil that claims to regulate the amount of moisture in the plant. I was planning on growing outdoors so I figured this would be cool if I went out of town or something but I got paranoid and moved them inside.

On closer inspection it looks like it has these little balls that fill with water when I water the plant. I'm about two weeks in and it seems to be cool, but can I still use nutes on this plant? Or will the moisture control balls suck it all up?

Here's the Soil Description:

Mix of coconut fibers, Canadian sphagnum peat moss, and a wetting agent to provide superior water holding and releasing environment. Protects plants against the effects of over and under watering. Enriched with Miracle-Gro plant food. An AquaCoir formula helps reduce plant stress between waterings. Provides added protection during hot and dry weather. You won't need to use any nutes for the first 4-6 weeks. The soil you have will feed them plenty.

How did this turn out? I am using miracle-gro moisture control also...in 3.5 weeks veg.

Ok you have to add some perlite with that soil

MJ does not like a moist soil.

MG moisture control works pretty well as-is....here is some of my plants at 43 days with Six 4' flouresents

I appreciate the reply...U know what man, contrary to what everyone is saying (i hope i don't eat my words) miracle-gro moisture control seems to kick some serious ass...I have done everything wrong and still I got some strong ass plants...in other words, i think in lots of other soil, these things would be dead by now. updating some pics to see if anyone has any idea on if i got males or females. checking out your pics now

I haven't used any nutes or anything so far...plants are just getting whats already in the soil....im going to be putting them under 600watts soon and then using FF nutes accordingly.

Cool man...keep us posted. I think I'm going to stick with MG moisture control all the way. I've become attached.

Where did you get your 600 watt hps? What brand is it? Send a link of your exact one if you get a moment. I am shopping around for another one but I can't decide! Right now I have a 150 watt hps from Floralux but it hasn't been used yet...well, I used it for two days when I was clueless and stretched the hell out of my plants.

Yes you can plant it straight in this soil with no perlite, but come time when it flowers your plants will be upset.

There is no dispute to the fact that MJ does not like a moist soil

This has been stated time and time again.

Put some perlite in there

I suggest you add bloom nutes when your plants start to bud. Sure you could just use your soil for the whole grow but your yield will suffer.

yeah im definitly going to be adding some soon..still at least another week before i switch to 12/12

Before I get my head ripped off for asking this, I did in fact search a while (though I am sure the answer is out there somewhere) so I am going to do it...how do I mix perlite? Just as it sounds? just mix it up with the soil? Or do I layer it? (runs from angry mob)

Mix 1 part perlite into 3 parts of soil.

Never worry about whatever question you add

I asked the same question as I read a tutorial about adding perlite to soil. It never said mix, just to add.

Believe it or not I poured perlite in the bottom then added soil on top (Mistake)

After I had asked I was informed to mix it up.

Tell you one thing...before I chose "Durban Poison" to be my strain of choice I had read it is tough as nails...being the newbie I am/was (getting much better) I drowned the hell out of them for a while and though I had some setbacks, they are really starting to get nice...any other strain prolly would have died with the way I watered them and abused them for a while. Loving this strain thus far. Can't wait to feel that sweet sativa high!

Can you explain? I am using Miracle-Gro Moisture Control so I really don't have anything else to mix. I mean, I could go get it, but I have heard MG pretty much doesn't need anything added as it already contains enough. I know your going to say MG sucks, but tell you one thing, these ten plants are doing nice in it...hope they continue to when I enter flowering stage. A few of them are over 12 inches so I think I need to start 12/12 on some of them asap. Never again will I start a grow with 10 plants all started at a lil bit different days. Live and learn..but, I'm holding my own so far! Thanks for the reply bro..cheers

Ok this is based on how big your pots are 1,3,5 gallon

Basically get a measuring cup (i use a 1 quart one)

If you are using a 3 gallon pot then that is equivalent to 12 of my measuring cups

so to accomplish 1 part perlite and 3 parts soil that would be 25% of 12 which is 3

So i would use 3 of my measuring cups of perlite and 9 of my measuring cups soil.

Now some more on Miracle grow soil.

Although a lot of people are against it, i can tell you of my experience.

MG soil most of the times comes with gnats, yes this happened with me. Although they were easy to deal with, this is a pain in the ass. Especially for someone who is starting out.

Also when dealing with chemical fertilizers you will get a salt build up which can lock out your nutes, and cause ph problems. Same thing happened to me.

I do hope you have a good grow, and all goes well, but now I always recommend organic. There are much less issues to deal with
