Molassses/honey contains complex sugars, vitamins and minerals. The sugars and vitamins serve as food for the bacteria in the soil that transform and digest the soil in order to form absorbable nutes for the roots.

The minerals are great for the plant's metabolism and bud growth.

Never use molasses, honey or sugar in a hydro setup, the sediments can cause clogging and can attract pests.

Don't pour honey on the soil. Honey or molasses should be mixed into the watering solution so you can check your pH since honey hasa low pH (it's acidic.)

Honey and molasses have about the same amount of carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. The only difference is that honey is more readily available on the market and cheaper to produce.

Edit: never use more than 2 tbs/gal of molasses/honey/sugar because it may attract pests, can cause mold and honey is acidic and antispectic and can cause a part of the bacteria in the soil to die out and you don't want that.
