First, do NOT use refined sugar. Use only blackstrap molasses. Supposedly, its more for during flowering, but I add it once a week throughout the life of the plant.
Mix about a teaspoon to a quart of water. It doesn't mix with water easily. You need a container that is water tight so you can shake it up good. I also add some fish emulsion/kelp extract. I'll add it just before a good watering, so it gets down into the soil. If you just pour the molasses mix on the soil, it tends to harden up the top layer of soil, which is not good.
