So I've come to the conclusion that molasses is bloody awesome... I have some Himalaya Blue Diesel seedlings germinated a week apart... the second lot of seedlings have been given molasses from the beginning and the first lot went without its dark sugary goodness... The 1 week younger HBD's given molasses are larger and greener than their older brothers and sisters...

This experiment of mine has convinced me that Molasses is bloody awesome and I will use it from now on with all my plants...

Good for you...unfortunatley to prove the scientific theory you need a larger test group. With that being said, I like to use earth juice catalyst why is a molasses mixed with other micro nutes. I really liked the results and will probably continue using too.

I understand that to be properly scientific I would need more than the 2, 10 plant groups and also multiple runs of it... But seeing as I'm not writing a paper on this it's a good enough example for me...

Big +1 on the catalyst! Good stuff, but still more spendy than molasses. Still, much cheaper than most any other bottled stuff.

Anyway, what I do is use 1/2 amounts of catalyst and molasses, or use full amounts and alternate the 2. Works great and cuts down the expense. But then, I mix up 20-30 gallons at a pop.

If youre using seedlings, of course there will be a lot of variation of phenotypes.

However, molasses is not just sugar, its also a great 'light' fertilizer for your plnants, and contains numerous nutes and micronutrients. So, of course your seedlings would fair better from it, because you were adding bioth more nutrients as well as conditioning your soil for more biological activity.

I like molasses so much I bought a 5gal bucket! I use it as a soil drench at app rate 1tsp/gal, can use up to 1tbsp/gal when making compost teas. Used to use ej catalyst as a ph down until I saw a friend zap her entire garden by forgetting to check if catalyst was still good. Too many days in a warm room caused it to start fermenting and killed her garden overnight. When adding molasses I like to heat up some water and blend it in before adding sugar water to rez and then water plants. after a quick rinse of the rez I add a few tbsp h2o2 to sanitize. the other plus to buying molasses in bulk is the ability to make sweet sweet rum!

I do the same thing - buy true blackstrap (you would never want to eat this as it is way too bitter - all the good stuff and less sugar) by the 5g bucket. It's a fertilizer, feeds my DIY CO2, and then becomes rum. :)
