molasses to use or not to use

Well as far as the research being up to date,You probably got me on that, but only because everyone tells everyone not to do it.So what kind of research do you have if noone uses it.I learned how to grow in water from a older guy who used to grow large quantities and he past his recipe to me.Like i said 4 grows and not dissapointed in the least bit,But when i tried to tweek the recipe by using chem. instead of organic carbs there is a definate difference in the bud size and quantity. When using molasses in hydro its for the benefit of the sugars not neccesarilly for michrobes. The sugars are what are going to thicken up your stalk and root mass as well as give you awsome trichome production. So with a thicker stalk and root mass you can deliver more nutes to the plant during veg all the way to harvest. There is no other chemical substitute for molasses,at least not yet that can compare with the real thing.Basically all im saying is dont knock it if you havent tried it.And this is only my opinion from experience.

I will say it again. I AM NOT KNOCKING MOLASSES IN HYDRO.
I have never tried it at all , and i dont do water , so again i have no hands on with hydro. I have alot of knowledge on both but i am a dirt man. You saying that it is helping is enough to give it a try because i know a lil wont hurt.
I also made it clear that it has a lil npk and micro-nutes that all plants need to survive. So yes there may be a benefit from it in water, specially if your not feeding correctly.
The "chemical carbo load" you speak of IS molasses .........go read your bottle. (it might have other goodies in it too)
The plant does not use the sugars from it , that i am aware of. The plants makes its own sugar, i dont think it "eats" them. The reason it helps to make roots bigger (which makes everything bigger) is because it has nutes in it and it feeds bugs.
Also, no one ever said it would kill whats good in molasses. molasses feed microbes (live bugs) and over-use of chemical ferts can kill the microbes not the food in the molasses. and just because your in water does not mean you do not have microbes , and the microbes you do have are probably good ones .....so yes i can see the molasses helping a little. (it just depends on how much YOUR plant is relying on bugs to feed it..........with the proper ratio of synthetic NPK and micro-nutes , you dont need the extra help from bugs)
I am not downing you or anything you do. I love all people and i am just tryin to help. you helped me by saying it helps your dro (good info for the future) Maybe i can help you too.......maybe not.

Hey wyteboi, i wasnt trying to knock you.I look at some of these posts and most say dont use molasses, and give a generalized interpitation of what they read.most times a wrong interpitation.Im in no way saying you interprited it wrong as a matter of fact you have done your homework on the subject (growing in dirt with molasses).I do realize im fighting an uphill battle,I second guessed myself switched from molasses and was disapointed. i do like to ask questions and find out both sides before making a conclusion, and sounds like you do too, problem is,there is no current info on the matter except dont mix chem with org.Sorry bro thought you were trying to down the idea as so many others do.

Yea your right i wont down anything that i have not tried myself. some folks piss in their plants and im not knockin that either...hell i even did it as a child <<--he pissed on his plant:shock: :dunce:
anyways that proly dont hurt either ........its all about you and your babies and doing anything u have to to keep them green. (i know "keep um green" is UB's thang but its very true and proven)

It took me awhile but i finnally relized that mj is just like every other plant in the world, and very few "super tonics" are worth the money. although in dro/synthetics you are feeding the plant directly without the help of soil so there are some "extras" i would use if in water.
I would love to see a side by side comparison of MG/Peters and any expensive hydro nutes, but it would have to be someone that really knows their shit. I believe any food used at the right ratio will do as good as any. (my opinion)

Good luck Dowd !

This is just some wild hypothesis, not anything I've read up on, but I'd think anything water soluble would end up in the plant. If you tasted it or not would depend on how much got pulled in, and how sensitive your senses are. Plants generate their own sugars, but after photosythesis it's in the same basic sense that we generate sugar or fat---for fuel and storage of fuel. I don't even have a guess as to what too much sugar would do. Obesity in plants? :>) Definately would mess with their osmosis at some point.

Didn't one of the early books on growing (Cervantes or maybe Rosenthal) have folks flavoring their plants artificially? I remember reading that they would take a needle and string, and push it through until the string was embedded in the stalk. Then they'd put the string into a container of whatever flavoring (blecht---chocolate smoke?) and let the plant wick it up.

Don't mean to highjack. I've just heard too much, and my enthusiasm runneth over :>)
