Doesn't that kill seedlings rather quickly?

Otherwise finding a better potting soil would be advisable. Poor drainage or uncomposted organic matter would be my guess.
Thanks. I've become convinced that poor drainage is indeed the problem. The green stuff still seems weird to me, though. I would have thought that too much moisture would simply cause straight white mold.


I'm happy to say that the plants are still looking healthy, though a bit small for their age.

Mold for sure. I'm with Sunni, I would transplant into a better draining soil. I don't know how well a tiny seedling is going to do with that much mold. Plus, it tells me the soil isn't allowing much air to the root system.
