I harvested some male pollen sack's a while back and forgot to leave the jar OPEN to dry out.. they have this spider web type mold growing across the top of them. I removed as much of the mold as possible.. still viable? excepting the fact that ill be spreading mold spores on my pretty girl with the pollen... bad?

I have to agree, pitch it.

And I don't understand why I hear of so many people harvesting the whole pollen sack to try and get some pollen for breeding. I don't think the pollen is actually viable until the flower opens and releases it. Before that it's still forming/maturing.

What I've done to collect pollen is to put a male plant off in a separate location and let it continue to form flowers. When they start opening on there own and releasing pollen I hold a slick piece of paper (a glossy magazine page works) under the flower bunches and then tap the branch to get the pollen to fall on the paper. From there it's pretty easy to funnel it into one of those plastic 35mm film canister for storage in the freezer. If you milk a male plant like this once or twice a day for a week or two you'd be surprised (I was) on just how much pollen you can collect.

I just pollinated some lower buds on a couple of plants with pollen I collected over a year a go. It will be a couple of more weeks before I'll know if it was still viable enough to cause a seed to form. How ever I do know that 6 months a go it was still good.

Pollen is only viable for a few weeks unless you vacuum seal and freeze it.

You'll probably end up giving your plants a mold infection if you dust your buds with it.

My humble opinion is to toss it and try again later.

But it's these types of mistakes accumulated over multiple grows that make great gardeners.

Maybe it would only make me a little sick...

Okay fine.. chunk the mold.. have to wait 3 more months for purple rhino seeds...

hers da deal U should have seperated te green vegatation from the pollen then dried it before putting it away

i keep mine in small pouch made from brown supermarket bag I put that between them packs that pull out moisture i cant think of their name (im a burn out smoking since 1965) anyway i put that in a ziplock and pull out air then i keep that in a cure jar in the freezer

bottom line moisture not good for pollen , not goood for buds, i just started making hash and guess what must always make sure its dry befor pressed into shape or guess what mold

so big enemy number one is moisture

stay dry my friend
