moldy weed?

Hey so I heard that when you're weed get's a little dry you can put an orange peel in the bag to kind of "revitalize" it. So I did that the other day, and put the orange peel in there for like a little more than 24 hours. And when I opened it up to throw the peel out, I noticed that my weed had some white fluffy stuff on it. Could that be mold? I inspected it closer and wasn't sure if it was the weed rejuvenated or if it was some cobweb mold. One thing that was throwing me a curveball was that the orange peel did not have ANY mold on it. So what do you think?

If it is mold, is it harmful to smoke now? I really don't want to have to throw away any of it. I think it would break my heart to throw away buds.

Most likely it is mold, I don't see what else it could be. You shouldn't have left that peel in for so long, an hour or two would have sufficed. You might have to throw it away, mold spores can spread and can cause serious illness that might be difficult explaining to a doctor. You could make iso hash oil out of it if you got enough.

ok what i'm going to do is put the bud in a container of silica gel beads. The kind of beads you use to dry flower petals etc. And just suck some of the moisture off. I inspected the bud further and only a piece or two seem to have the "network" of hairy threads as opposed hair that is coming of the plants (trichromes). But with some drying out, it should lower the chances of the mold in question from producing anymore.

I really think it would make you sick to smoke moldy weed. Mold isn't very good for your lungs.

Yes but the thing is you only see mold that flowers. There could be a lot that just didn't flower yet and you would be smoking though. Really, it's not worth the risk of ending up in the hospital or something. Smoking mold is bad. That's why your not supposed to live in the same house as certain mold.

Not my words but found them floating on the net.

"Molds are fungi, and some species of mold can produce highly toxic chemicals. Even if you remove all the mold that you can see, the chemicals they produce could be spread throughout the Cannabis. There's no practical way to identify whether the particular mold growing on your Cannabis is toxic or not, but burning and inhaling the smoke of potentially toxic mold isn't worth the risk.

The only thing you can do is throw the Cannabis away. If it was growing mold, chances are it would not have been very good smoking material anyway. Making sure that Cannabis is thoroughly dry before storing it should help prevent against mold.

Probably the primary acute danger with smoking cannabis that has molded is allergic reaction. Many molds produce chemicals and contain cells that can cause severe allergic reactions. The second danger is that a toxin produced by the mold would have a lingering damaging effect that would not be immediately identifiable. Your health is worth more than it would cost to buy more."

hahaha desperate maybe, but I just don't know for sure. And that's why its killing me. This is all happening on a microscopic level that you or I can't see so I don't even know. I might just be tripping out about something that is normal to the weed. I've grown my share of fungus to know what real bad mold is like and typically it smells god awful, and looks gnarly and unappealing. But this weed smells fresh and looks tremendously better.

I'd say I'll take my chances with this "mold" because my theory is in everyday life I intake tons of spores. Yes, there is probably mold spores on this bud. And there has probably been mold spores on other buds you or I have smoked and we've never noticed. I'm tossing the questionable pieces and keeping the rest. Fire = kill and water bong = extra allergen reduction.

Yeah really, why ask our opinion if you've already made up your mind because you don't like our answer....

Usually in these kinds of threads where everyone is warning someone not to do something and they do it anyway, they come back and let us know how big of a mistake it was.
