I find it HILARIOUS that the White House took the time to "debunk" the information that Beck is disseminating to the public. With all the "so called" conspiracy theories (that make absolute sense to anyone who isn't a koolaid drinking Obama worshipper) that he has outlined in the last couple of weeks on his radio and tv shows, this is the best they could do? After disclosing the ties between all of these Fascist, Marxist, Socialist and Communist scumbags that Obama has in every position of power and playing the footage of them damning themselves with their own words, the couple of objections the WH put out is all they could muster?

The fact he said Vancouver instead of Calgary. An OBVIOUSLY unintentional error since he was speaking of money lost on past Olympics. That's their big factual objection? What about all the facts he's been putting forth for months? A misspoken city? Thats it? Sheesh!

Or even better yet, pointing out the fact that Valerie Jarrett wasn't on the phone call between the NEA and Buffy Wicks. Even though Beck NEVER SAID SHE WAS. However, Ms. Wicks made it very clear she was in Valerie Jarrett's office and was functioning in a official capacity for her. Beck makes a great analogy... "you know Nixon was never ACTUALLY IN the Watergate hotel". It's a terrible argument made by the WH and once again with all the claims that Beck has made, THIS is the best they can come up with... Wow, kind of gives you the feeling that the WH is UNABLE to make any credible objections to Beck's facts... which isn't surprising since all he's doing is giving FACTS.

Keep denying it LIBS...@ your own peril. We're already laughing at you to your faces, the next step is booting you all out of power.

Who do these theories make sense to, exactly? I'm not an Obama supporter by any stretch of the imagination, and I can clearly see that Beck is beyond crazy.

He gets all his "information" from Google searches, and rarely, if ever, double checks these sources for accuracy. There are no facts coming from Glen Beck, and if you believe there are then you are just as crazy as he is.

Well, going by his and Fox News' ratings, the popularity (overwhelming) of his radio show, live show tour, paperback (17 weeks #1 NYT bestseller list), new hardcover book (debuting #1 NYT BSL) and the fact he gets some of the most brilliant and influential people in their fields on a regular basis... I guess they make sense to quite a few people.

Well, as I am myself a recovering alcoholic (once an alcoholic always an alcoholic) my words will never carry any weight as I am an addict.

I respectfully bow out of this debate. I am going back to what this site is for, to help me make my green grow bigger and greener. I do love to debate politics and can easily make an ass out of myself debating my beliefs, along with watching others make an ass out of themselves when they re-butt. I would rather make growing friends than fight politics because I have been around long enough to know I won't change anyones mind and they won't change mine. It's a classic stale mate.

I agree that we disagree, and I will leave it at that. I am going back to check on my garden.

Hmmm... let's see, you claim that because he's so popular he must be telling the truth - then you call ME a "lemming" for NOT blindly following along like you are? Talk about projection....

Did you know the average IQ in the US is 90? 90?!!!! So, saying that he must be telling the truth because his show is popular really doesn't hold water. Americans, unfortunately, for the most part, aren't very bright.

There is no MEAT in your assertions.

The American public is generally low in intelligence, and easily influenced by the media. The fact that Fox News has higher ratings than any other media outfit only further proves my point. Americans are interesting in being entertained, not educated. Fox delivers the entertainment people want, which is why they are rated number 1.

It has nothing to do with whether the information they disseminate is true or not, and everything to do with the entertainment value of their programming.

FYI: Lemmings follow the group. If the group watches Glen Beck, and I don't follow, I am NOT one of the lemmings. You are.

I think it's a disgrace that anyone at the White House needs to bother "debunking" anything Glen Beck says. If there were some government conspiracy, as he claims there is, he would have been shut up a long time ago. The fact that he's still on the air is proof positive that there is, in fact, NO conspiracy.

So this time you SPECIFICALLY left out the portion of my earlier posts that you have quoted yourself twice and I have posted 3 times and yet you are still avoiding addressing. Let's try this for a FIFTH time and see if you we can actually make some progress on this discussion instead of you and your party's typical tactic of changing the subject... hey I know, maybe you can just blame it on Bush. Here we go again, give it a whirl, you might impress yourself.

I guess I posted this up before you finished adding to your last post since the final part about the conspiracy wasn't there when I threw this one up. However, that's a pretty weak response after all your previous digs on Beck. The fact is the WH said they WERE GOING TO GO AFTER BECK. And they are going to debunk his facts, whether you think they should or not... but it is still incredibly laughable that the two objections they made were so pathetic when all of his months of assertions are "supposedly" so crazy. Cmon WH, tell us the Apollo org DIDNT write the stimulus package... even though it's now been PROVEN they did (just one of many of Beck's crazy theories that were mocked by libs like you). The list is too long to put forth here and it wouldnt do any good anyways. When all of his assertions are proven correct and all of this garbage is forced to be displayed in the MSM, only then will you acknowledge it, and then it only be done with an accompanied "so what" or "look what Bush did".

Just because you believe it, doesn't make it true. Yes, I SPECIFICALLY left those parts out, because they are the product of your own imagination.

I can tell you that monkeys are taking over the world, and show you a clip of some monkeys running through the city streets and you would believe it, because "there's video clips to back it up!".

Do you know what a pretty recent survey discovered about Fox News viewers? That they have NO IDEA what's actually going on in the world. That's right, Fox News watchers are among the LEAST informed of the population. They are the MOST likely to believe misinformation and the LEAST likely to actually know what's true and what isn't.

Judging by this exchange with you, I'm willing to bet those survey results are accurate.

Was it conducted by the same people that did the survey of Berkley students? You know the one that made them all look like complete idiots. I'm sure the survey your espousing was done by MSNBC or the LA Times....LOL. I'm sure the questions went something like this "Were the bailouts necessary?" answer "NO"....WRONG, "Will Medicare recipients see any cuts or changes?" answer "YES"....WRONG, stupid Fox viewers don't know anything.

Yeah and when we see video of Van Jones claiming to be a Communist and saying he wants social justice and redistribution of wealth, we should assume he means the opposite?

And when the President and Dems claim that no illegals are going to be covered and that Joe Wilson lied when he said Obama lied, only days later to put in provisions that SPECIFICALLY ensure illegals will be covered and vote down provisions that make sure only legal citizens receive benefits, we should just keep telling Joe he was wrong... despite the fact he was 100% correct?

Oh, I could do this all day... and the beautiful thing is 90% of the lies, corruption, cronyism, payoffs and raping of our tax dollars, you wouldn't even be able to address... with any arguments... because of the fact you don't watch Fox News, you don't have any idea that they exist. Fact is, you aren't getting any information about the HORROR show that is the first 9 months of this administration.

You really are misinformed, aren't you? Have you read the bill in question, or more specifically, the language that deals with coverage for illegal immigrants? I'm betting you haven't, you're just relying on someone else's false statement and hoping it's true. It isn't.

LOL@ I don't watch Fox News so I don't know these issues exist. don't you GET IT? The reason Fox is the only outfit reporting on these things is because they are LIES! Fabrications, nontruths, etc.

Guess what? I DO watch Fox News, so I know EXACTLY what they are reporting. Your problem is that you ONLY watch Fox News, so you have no frame of reference as to what is ACTUALLY going on aside from what Fox News has told you. Even when Fox is called out for reporting false information, they NEVER, EVER retract those incorrect statements - so their viewers keep on believing they are true, even when the ENTIRE rest of the world knows differently.

I feel sorry for you.

I watch many other networks and read many sources that would and do call Fox News out for their "supposed" false statements. The problem is, Fox always has substantial evidence to prove their assertions, while these other networks and people like you, think that simply saying a fact isn't true makes in untrue. I always hear the same thing... Fox News said this, but President Obama said specifically that isn't true... guess what Obama is the bold faced liar, so using the target of the story simply saying the story is false is in NO WAY credible.

I've also seen and read countless attempts to discredit Fox fall on their face, when Fox gets vindicated by documents getting released, long forgotten video being found, or just plain proof that the attempt to discredit them was a fabrication in and of itself. Fox News is the last BASTION OF JOURNALISM on tv at least, WSJ, Washington Examiner and Washington Times are a few of the other sources that aren't throwing away their principles to cheerlead for this administration.

I don't feel sorry for you. You are following this jackass and his cronies with your eyes wide open, and when you finally come out of the fantasy world you're in now, apologies will NOT be accepted.

Study shows Fox News viewers misinformed about war, Iraq, WMD

Posted October 6th, 2003 at 11:43 am Spotlight | Permalink

I have naively believed for years that staying informed about current events by getting some news is better than blissful ignorance derived from getting no news. Then Fox News Channel helped demonstrate just how wrong I was.
The Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland conducted a thorough study of public knowledge and attitudes about current events and the war on terrorism. Researchers found that the public’s mistaken impressions of three facets of U.S. foreign policy — discovery of alleged WMD in Iraq, alleged Iraqi involvement in 9/11, and international support for a U.S. invasion of Iraq — helped fuel support for the war.
While the PIPA study concluded that most Americans (over 60%) held at least one of these mistaken impressions, the researchers also concluded that Americans’ opinions were shaped in large part by which news outlet they relied upon to receive their information.
As the researchers explained in their report, “The extent of Americans’ misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions. Those who receive most of their news from NPR or PBS are less likely to have misperceptions. These variations cannot simply be explained as a result of differences in the demographic characteristics of each audience, because these variations can also be found when comparing the demographic subgroups of each audience.”
Almost shocking was the extent to which Fox News viewers were mistaken. Those who relied on the conservative network for news, PIPA reported, were “three times more likely than the next nearest network to hold all three misperceptions. In the audience for NPR/PBS, however, there was an overwhelming majority who did not have any of the three misperceptions, and hardly any had all three.”

Looking at the misperceptions one at a time, people were asked, for example, if the U.S. had discovered the alleged stockpiles of WMD in Iraq since the war began. Just 11% of those who relied on newspapers as their “primary news source” incorrectly believed that U.S. forces had made such a discovery. Only slightly more — 17% — of those who relied on NPR and PBS were wrong. Yet 33% of Fox News viewers were wrong, far ahead of those who relied on any other outlet.
Likewise, when people were asked if the U.S. had “clear evidence” that Saddam Hussein was “working closely with al Queda,” similar results were found. Only 16% of NPR and PBS listeners/viewers believed that the U.S. has such evidence, while 67% of Fox News viewers were under that mistaken impression.
Overall, 80 percent of those who relied on Fox News as their primary news source believed at least one of the three misperceptions. Viewers/listeners/readers of other news outlets didn’t even come close to this total.
In other words, Fox News viewers are literally less informed about these basic facts. They have, put simply, been led to believe things that are simply not true. These poor dupes would have done better in this survey, statistically speaking, if they received no news at all and simply guessed whether the claims were accurate.
And, in addition to a fun bash-Fox-athon, I wanted to add that the PIPA study also documented that those who relied on newspapers as their primary news source were better informed than those who watched any of the television news broadcasts. The only folks more informed than newspaper readers were NPR listeners.

but no... it is the left's fault for not believing all the truth spewing from fox news. FOX NEWS VIEWERS: "were three times more likely than the next nearest network to hold all three misperceptions."

damn, the truth hurts. it hurts soooo bad.

Laughable argument. Almost ALL of the MSM newsrooms are being managed by and filled with hard left progressives that vehemently refrain from running anything derogatory to this administration. It's not even debatable anymore, with national stories breaking all around them, they sit there in bewildered silence, wondering how they lost the ability to control the news and bury stories. Now when they bury them, they just show themselves for the Eco-statist-self loathing-Obamalings they are. And YOU BOUGHT INTO IT COMPLETELY. kiss-ass

LOL

And how sad is it that all these other networks are failing miserably? I say, and I'm right, it's because Fox IS THE LAST BASTION OF JOURNALISM. People know it, you'd have to be blind not to see it... or a koolaid drinking Lib. Of course they can't see it, the MSM is telling them EXACTLY what they want to hear, and ignoring the reality that is attacking this country. How about the fact that a "Entertainment" NEWS NETWORK... is doing a better job of reporting what is ACTUALLY happening than your beloved, fair and balanced LOL, hard hitting news agencies and networks?

I'm too tired to address redivider's ridiculous post about a study from 7 years ago conducted by the UBER CONSERVATIVE..<LOL>... University of Maryland about how Fox viewers are misinformed... yes you heard me, from the highly revered institution of unbiased survey studies. PUHLEASE.
