Mother plants vs. buying clones

I live in california so I can buy clones from local clubs for around $15. My flowering room isn't huge (5X4) and I plan to have a sea of green type grow so I'll have around 16 small plants in that area. I'm guessing that'll be around $120 a month for clones (I plan one buying 4 every two weeks). Does that seem cheaper than it would be to maintain a couple mother plants so I could grow my own clones?

Hmmm. Dont you have enough room to veg your clones long enough to make your own clones?

From what i have heard, and im working on getting this rolling, you dont keep a mother plant and take cutting after cutting after cutting. You take your clones, veg them till then are cloneable, take clones, and then flower the first set of clones (now mothers). Repeat.

Way cheaper to have your own mother plant and make your own clones. $120 a month on rooted clippings sounds like a complete waste to me.

I want to use the sea of green method, so the clones will have no veg time (This is the way Al B. Fuct grows his). I don't think they will be big enough to clone before they are too far into the flowering stage. How big does a plant have to be before you can take strong clones from it?

If I wanted to maintain mother plants in another room that would mean buying another 400 watt light and running it 24/7, right? Where I live I'm pretty sure that would cost at least $120 a month in electricity alone.

Good point. Just hear a lot about keeping mother plants. Are they just for people with bigger grow rooms?
