hey I'm moving to northern california. I've been planning to grow for a long time now but I'm worried that once i get there i won't find a landlord willing to rent his house to a grower. is it true that for some extra cash some landlords will look the other way. and whats the best way to find a house to rent from someone like that.

growing there is fucking nothing dude. go there with a good 1,000 for grow supplies on top of 3000 for starting out and you'll have no problems if you know how to manage things. go off the impulse of buying a clone and go for the max with what you can. get a license its worth it. buy seeds asap. make a splash big time.

I would get a few pratice runs in unless you got people back home to sell your weed to cause theirs just so many growers out there you got to be damn good to make good money. although if you have people back home your set buy weed for cheap as fuck and send it back home too make some extra loot.

if you're moving out to california to profit off of the mmj industry i suggest you stay where you are.

Reasons:
1) its a tough market.

California is known throughout the usa as having some of the most potent and fairly priced marijuana in the whole nation. Places like ny an oz can go for $400 and it may not even be to california's standard of "top shelf bud". since its decriminalized (and legal for medical purposes) it also keeps the price down. less risk = less reward. places like fl and ny has a zero tolerance policies so therefore its much more expensive and the quality isnt as abundant.

california has a pretty well established network of dispensaries, growers, delivery services/collectives, etc.

so bottom line...you'll be a small fish in an ocean.

2) any serious landlord will NOT look the other way if you grease him with some $$$.

why? because if you're caught growing in his building/unit by Federal authorities they can seize his building and make a claim that he was involved since it was his building and he allowed it (or thats how it looks to the FBI/DEA) thats a serious threat for people who rent apartments. no amount of (reasonable) increased rent or w/e is gonna make them consider gambling with their building.

if you were a landlord would you let someone? im a big supporter of mmj and hell even just blazing once in awhile recreationally but if i owned my own apt building i wouldnt stick my neck out on the line for any renter.

3) its not as easy as you think.

you hear so many stories of ppl coming out of the woodwork to come to california and set up a grow and profit off it and they usually either end up in jail, dead, robbed, or just flat out unsuccessful. its hard to get in even if you live in california let alone an outsider no one can vouch for. the california mmj industry is slightly hollywood in the sense that who you know plays a big role in how far you go w/o taking too many chances that arent necessary.

plus if you think "ill just take the bud to the clubs and sell to them"...be prepared to get lowballed to hell. reason is: they get tons of ppl who bring their product in. they can cherry pick through it and low ball them. if they dont accept the next grower will take the offer. sometimes they are packed with so much bud they cant buy it from you simply because they have too much inventory.

4) cost of living.

rent is sky high. gas is even higher (supposedly its 4.60 something per gallon out there now and expected to possibly hit $5 a gallon...this is for regular might i remind you)

It kind of depends on where you want to settle as well. Urban, out in the boonies, or in the city. The feds are trying to intimadate landlords with the threat of having their property confiscated if they find a grow on it. At least in the central valley. If you plan an indoor grow rather than an outdoor grow you will definately have to have a 420 friendly landlord. If growing outdoor, consider a garilla grow rather than a garden grow unless you can find a landlord who is sympathetic.
Start a small, legal limit grow ( 6 plants where I am ) and learn the ropes, get good genetics and don't skimp on equiptment.
There are many who move to cal thinking they can just jump in and make the big bucks on the pot trade without a clue as too how rough it can really be, and how expensive it can get. And many who go back home because they couldn't make it happen as easily they thought.
My suggestion is to find a place, get a JOB, look around and talk to locals who have local experience. And learn everything you can from places like this.
Don't want to throw cold water on your plans, but I've seen this befor and am just trying to warn you ahead of time. I really hope it works out for you but just know ahead of time that its not all as easy as its cracked up to be.

Disclaimer: I only grow what I am legally allowed to under cal prop 215 and am not involved in anything remotely illegal.

ew dude why name yourself after R & M?

To the OP:there isn't much in the way of jobs in norcal. Do you really want to move out here just to grow dope? Just know you're going to be amongst longtime growers in a saturated market.

If you're worried about landlords, check out the northbay craigslist under housing. Some people state no growers, some people are okay with it.

I don't even understand this thread. Who the hell goes to rent a house and starts off the conversation with "Hey is it cool if I grow a grip of weed here?". Just don't say shit and rent the place, at least that's what I'd do, once u have signed the lease its ur place, not like ur landlord can just walk up to ur door and say mind if I come in and take a look around. And if he did I'd tell him to fuck off.

i agree.

but...in certain situations your landlord doesnt have to give notice before entry, especially in cases of an emergency of some sort. plus i believe landlords are allowed inspections so many times per year or with so much notice.

so even if an emergency never strikes you'd still be dealing with routine inspections of the place which would force you to tear down your entire grow setup...move it out...let him inspect then move everything back in (all stealthy on top of it).

its hard work. ive done that very thing before (rented and moved everything out for inspections, etc) it was a pain in the ass especially when there was a period of time where a county inspector was involved (certain aspects of the property were not "up to code" so he was there on and off every month or so)

id spend the WHOLE NIGHT before an inspection putting everything into boxes and moving everything out of the place then after the inspection (that night) i'd be moving things back in the house into the wee hours of the morning.

nothing easy about that. if youre just using a 150 or 250 thats one thing. i had 2 600s. a 4ft 6 bulb t5 system. a gang of fans, an a/c, plus huge plants (once i had to move some that got so big in flowering they wouldnt fit through the door!)

just warning the threadstarter.

i personally wouldnt move to california unless i already had family there or something. its too hard to make it in the fiercest mmj market in the country especially if you're coming from out of state to do it. those who have always lived in cali have problems keeping afloat!

In the area I am in growing is so common that if you go to town you can find somebody selling an oz of top shelf for $50 - you either have to wait - prove to the people you know that you have better weed(by smoking it with them) or just not sell it ;)
If waiting i would wait till all the outdoor CA growers get rid of their stuff(around dec. or january)

more wise words of wisdom. trying to sell any bud in cali once the outdoor buds have been harvested is insane at best. you can get "top shelf outdoor" for $100 an oz or under all day during this time of year

i wouldnt come out here period. dont get me wrong, ive lived here my whole life and its home so i love it for that reason but really this state fuckin sucks. cost of living is high as shit for no damn reason. jobs are scarce, taxes are raised on an hourly basis, and we're always on fire. also have to agree with some other posts and say the weed market out here is beyond saturated. but if u have to come down and get in where u fit in

Depending on how much you wanna spend on rent... I'd say get a house instead of apartment. Less likely someone will want to come in and check smoke detectors or other apt bullshit. Also don't mention your intentions, just get your license and do it. I have a friend that grows in his apt, the entire complex smells Like weed. So much that someonebroke in to his apt and ripped his plants, nothing else just his plants. Good luck, stay high
