so your saying housing is the least of my problems i should mainly focus on learning and doing as much research as possible before i start?
if you're moving out to california to profit off of the mmj industry i suggest you stay where you are.
Reasons:
1) its a tough market.
California is known throughout the usa as having some of the most potent and fairly priced marijuana in the whole nation. Places like ny an oz can go for $400 and it may not even be to california's standard of "top shelf bud". since its decriminalized (and legal for medical purposes) it also keeps the price down. less risk = less reward. places like fl and ny has a zero tolerance policies so therefore its much more expensive and the quality isnt as abundant.
california has a pretty well established network of dispensaries, growers, delivery services/collectives, etc.
so bottom line...you'll be a small fish in an ocean.
2) any serious landlord will NOT look the other way if you grease him with some $$$.
why? because if you're caught growing in his building/unit by Federal authorities they can seize his building and make a claim that he was involved since it was his building and he allowed it (or thats how it looks to the FBI/DEA) thats a serious threat for people who rent apartments. no amount of (reasonable) increased rent or w/e is gonna make them consider gambling with their building.
if you were a landlord would you let someone? im a big supporter of mmj and hell even just blazing once in awhile recreationally but if i owned my own apt building i wouldnt stick my neck out on the line for any renter.
3) its not as easy as you think.
you hear so many stories of ppl coming out of the woodwork to come to california and set up a grow and profit off it and they usually either end up in jail, dead, robbed, or just flat out unsuccessful. its hard to get in even if you live in california let alone an outsider no one can vouch for. the california mmj industry is slightly hollywood in the sense that who you know plays a big role in how far you go w/o taking too many chances that arent necessary.
plus if you think "ill just take the bud to the clubs and sell to them"...be prepared to get lowballed to hell. reason is: they get tons of ppl who bring their product in. they can cherry pick through it and low ball them. if they dont accept the next grower will take the offer. sometimes they are packed with so much bud they cant buy it from you simply because they have too much inventory.
4) cost of living.
rent is sky high. gas is even higher (supposedly its 4.60 something per gallon out there now and expected to possibly hit $5 a gallon...this is for regular might i remind you)
