I am a total new, so I a sure some of my questions will be fairly stupid. Could anyone tell me what is the Multi-Vapor Bulb or if someone could tell me what this particular bulb is used for; Multi-Vapor MVR 400 (HG) / R 400.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah I got 6 of them. The ballast is attached to the frame. I was told they are for flowering. Here are the pictures.
I thought that bulbs that are used for flowering produce yellow-red or light orange color light. This bulb is producing very clear white color light. (Kind of like HID Lights in Cars). However I am using just the bulb and running through SunSystem Lamp #175 MH. (Not in the pictures). It seems that its producing a lot of light, but the light meter is barely showing reading. (It showed perfect reading under 1,000 WATT Bulb).
Are you sure this is not a grow light? I read that this light bulb is used in the first, vegetative phase of plant growth. And according to www.lightingsupply.com the bulb is listed under Gro lights, Agro lights, MH, Metal Halide, HID, H.I.D (here is a direct link: http://www.lightingsupply.com/MVR400-U.aspx)
those are m59 ballasts which are 400w metal halide. hope you have 480v to run them, because they are not multi-tap. i could be wrong though. if you open them up and take some more of those great photos, i will be able to help more. hope you didn't pay more than $40 for those.
4000K isn't a very good spectrum for growing, although it'll work. Basically, you'll be getting like 200 watts of performance,(for arguements sake) from a 400 watt bulb, due to the spectrum. Inefficient, but do-able.
