MW Hlg-320h-48AB Question

Budget grow space. Mistakes were made. Got a green thumb but the basement environment put me in way over my head. Smell is not an issue. Humidity, I could use to my favor with a dehumidifier And temp was low but good enough but..... bugs. I’m simply too worried about insects and my house is old AF so wanted more consistency being indoor and all. Got a 4x2x5 with plenty of room for other tent setups in the same room.

Got the amazon deal on qb120s. eBay deal on hlg320h-48AB. Would love to know what I was actually putting through these boards in parallel based on hlgs website diagram and this light put out. I assume overclocked to a “unsafe” amount but no issues at all. The girls took off at about 20 inches with the driver cranked up.

When I decided to go with a tent, I Upgraded to the 3 qb288 with heatsink deal from hlg with same driver in a tent. What’s the deal with this driver? I only have it on two boards now which is enough but doesn’t seem to run the qb288s very bright at all with three due to their forward voltage. Any idea what the watt would be per board with two in series hooked up to this driver? How about three? They do not seem to power on at all hooked up in parallel like the qb120s did. It has the built in dimmer but it does not function with these boards like it did with the lower voltage qb120s.

Maybe not enough juice per board... Ask @iPerculate. He is good with this kind of thing or can point u in the right direction. Or look at indoor threads.

its a 48 volt driver and the 288s are 54v boards. you had 24v boards wired in parallel on that driver? were they in 2 series 2 parallel?

you would want a hlg-320h-54 for the 288s

Yeah, I had 4 of the qb120s in parallel as in the attached pic. Had it dimmed at first. Everything I read said they were bullet proof so just when for it and ran them full voltage for a couple months at 18/6. Some said the boards could take like 600v. I couldn’t get the parallel wiring to even work on the qb288. Maybe the voltage is too low. I followed the directions for the kit that comes with the 54v driver. In series, the three boards power on but seem way to dim.

That diagram is series parallel with two boards wired in series for each parallel.

Unfortunately i think your AB driver doesn't have a voltage adjuster like the A version and the boards want 49volts to run 3 in parallel on that driver.

The A driver adjust from 43v-52v.

You can dim it down to the point they only want 48v but that would be 70w per board. You would have to try it and see.

Would like to see your wiring though, you cant be trying to wire in series on that driver either, voltage adds up.

Ok, thanks for your help! Series parellel is a little confusing but think i get it. I have two of the boardS on the three board slate wiring like the top image right now. Any idea on what I’m putting through each of the two boards? When I connect all three like the below image they seem too dim. Is this series wiring? I will prolly end up getting an additional eBay 150 driver to power just a single board on the slate. The build on dimmer does nothing but the wires coming out to use a potentiometer seem to dim when I create no resistance by touching the two wire.

If you want to run QB 288 boards at all without been wasteful you really need the correct voltage driver.

I would need to see a picture of how you have it wired or at least a good explanation of where the wires are going as far as positive and negative wires from where to where.

This was hopefully attached with my previous comment but I have qb288s as the top wiring schematic to my 48AB. The bottom with three boards also powers on. I will send you a pic of my final wiring and did spring for an eBay deal 150 but it will power a dedicated board with the two outside running off this 320. I realize this is wasteful but was hoping with the efficiency of LEDs, it would only be like 10% extra power. I really wish I would have gotten the correct driver but was not anticipating having to tent my grow and was loving the qb120s on this driver maxed out.

that diagram is just parallel. i think you'd be better off running the qb120s in series parallel like you had before and returning the 288s, OR selling that driver and getting a 54v driver for the 288s.
