My 1st ever hydroponic grow

First off I want to thank you all, I've grown on and off but started about 10 years ago now and every problem I fell into I fell out of quickly because of people on this forum.

Coco had become second nature to me ph perfects chelated chemicals had it so I didnt even have to lower the PH everything had become so simple so I started hydro after stumbling upon a 2nd hand combi DWC/F&D/Dripper system

I've lost time from cloning in rockwool, timer was on the light and fan but not humidifier so the cubes got drowned and it was game over, invested in an aeroponic X stream and the 100% success rate was indeed fact :)

But the time lost is now back in a way I could never have imagined, I knew from hear say that hydro was quicker than coco/soil but I never imagined like this they're growing quicker than my belly in lockdown 1!

Pictured below was a few days in after transplant, someone on here thankfully told me to check the PH as I knew even though I'm stuck with hard water for the time being this couldnt be a toxicity issue, my PH fluctuates up to 7-8 within just hours I didnt know this was a thing I was thinking like my Coco grows I make the res then anytime I go to it it's as I left it

So I learnt about ions aons the buffering effect etc and why I should have washed my hydroton in PH 5 water instead of tap water and started changing the water twice a week and adjusting the PH down to 5-5.5 twice a day

2 weeks after transplant

As you can see they arent the busiest plants going but they have got to where they are so fast and they arent very bushy because right now I'm just establishing the height so I have only been using the veg switch (120w per light x 4 = 480w for the 1.5 x 3m budbox pro hl) I'm about to top them and then add in a scrog net I've purchased a pond net with loads of small squares instead of the rubbish hydro ones they sell us that has maybe 25-36 squares in each one

These are the 240w leds, I'm going to be purchasing 2x of the bigger 360w leds to add in they were cheaper in black friday so im waiting for Jan sales to see if I can get some steals again and im waiting for a compression fitting to try and fit my reverse osmosis filter to the waste pipe to get that going

Pot size 40l
Dutch pro base nutrients only
1.5 x 3 x 2.2 white mylar budbox pro xxl hl (I fucking love this tent)

Currently only using the dripper ring although later on I may add in the DWC when the roots grow down into the res at the bottom of the pots and then a flood and drain a couple of times a day, I will be editing this post as things go on so it's easier to find the progress

If anyone has any advice they could offer me I will appreciate it!

Put your air pump outside the tent, somewhere cool/dark.Also shade your clear air lines.

I thought I'd be able to add on to the original post turns out not,
I've realised why I have such rapid and extreme PH fluctuations, the aeration dripper raises tap water PH it's good because I'm getting a 5-7ph swing overnight so they arent getting any deficiency but after a couple of days my 75l res has 100ml of ph down in it forcing me to constantly refresh the water, once I have managed to get my RO filter fitted I am going to retry and if the fluctuations are still broad I may switch to F&D so theres no need for aeration.

Someone else using the greenman system, pimp it a bit for max usage
Which way do you mean by pimp it? I think this company sucks ass, 0 customer service.. half of it is 3rd party products they just sold us a bit of plastic n disappeared with the money

Yeah I get that it will help with temps when I add more light but the problem I have if I try buy 3m of the tube they send you 3x 1m tubes instead of a 3m so this is the only place I can have it with it reaching all 8 dripper rings

Don't buy the bigger versions of those lights. You're wasting money on outdated tech.
Well it will add an extra 720watts for £440 whereas a lumatek zeus will add 600 for almost a grand, I have 440 I dont have 1000 without digging into savings but I am open to suggestions! (I have a 600w hps in the cupboard but I've mixed hps and led before it did not go well I had a very uneven canopy with some ready before the others)

I replaced all the bulkhead fittings with with tidy screw on ones, those rubber grommets leak like fuck, ditch the stones, go for air injection rings. Cover the top of pots with white panda film. Use the combi system, flood and drain every 2hrs, I get huge plants.

By combi which do you mean?;
-Dripper & F/D
- F/D & DWC
- Dripper & DWC
- Dripper, DWC & F/D

I only had problem with leaks when I first assembled ever since then I pushed everything in more securely and havent had a problem since but what you're on about will never leak, I can tell without looking could you send me a link to the fittings?
This was the closest I could find but I feel like it's not it it would need to be a Tee with 2x13mm ports and 1 19mm screw port I'm guessing?

I've just googled air injection rings, it says for DWC (better area coverage than airstones)? so I'm guessing you mean DWC & F/D so the air injection rings (pump) will be timed to be on for the 2 hours when the pots are flooded?

Sorry I probably should completely understand you it just hasn't completely mapped in my head yet I'm missing the big X

Ahh Johnny you've got me pull old stuff out of cupboards thinking what I can sell ‍♂
You don't need a $1000 Zeus. There are a ton of small unit LEDs in about the same size as the ones you're currently running. Since you're on a budget, look at Spiider Farmer, Mars, Hortibloom, Meiju. You want white light, not the purply(we call it blurple) lights you have in there.

There is an LED subsection here in the Indoor Growing forum. Go get lost in that rabbit hole for some time, you can learn a lot there.
