My 2 year old dwarf mothers are now pushing 'that smell' :)

fyi - I noticed a heightened weed smell in my veg area ..then sniff tracked it back to my dwarf mommas! After two years (or so) they seem to have finally fully matured calyx on some branches now (some even appeared to show very fine hairs). And so are giving off a bit of a whiff :) Hadn't noticed this with past mothers (although past long term mothers i had were always stored in an outside green house). These mothers have been on 18/6 their whole lives (with bursts of sun where possible). Just thought it interesting that (if you leave in veg long enough) they basically smell a little like they are in flower, as well as fully show their sex while still in veg time (although no one wants to wait around two years to 'know for sure' I'm guessing ;)

I'm turning my mothers (and favourite strains) into these little leafy 12" monstrosities (they are surprisingly low maintenance). Those pictured are in Coco/400 gram tubs (my first attempt) were originally from an old 1993 'skunk' mother cutting I made way back when (I'm giving one of them to a new grower so they have a clone resource). Currently working on shrinking a Strawberry Cream, a Malawi x Panama and a pineapple kush. They may look a bit 'ugly duckling' (maybe if i get better at pruning they will 'look' better) but its saving me ridiculous amounts of space and light energy. Plus they give a decent number of cuttings every few weeks ;) (each little branch has multiple cuttings on)
My dream is to have a small veg tent with about 10 mini mother strains and a selected male (flowered for pollen when needed) all under an efficient/low watt light source .
I'll then try experimenting with varying the wattage of light ..to either encourage slower growth (lower watts), or faster growth (higher light watts) before i take cuttings

I wouldn't call them ugly ducklings that's for sure. With plants that small I wouldn't even bother pruning but it seems like you know a bit more than me in that aspect haha

They look very light efficient. Bah just something else to salivate over while my poor girl tries to get over transplant shock that I apparently botched because I didn't pack down the new soil to transition to. o_O

Here's a pic of her from yesterday. I'd post one from today but you can believe me when. I say there's no improvement yet :sleep:

But mad props man, they look like twins haha

Good thing about our favourite herb ..she always bounces back! Often stronger then before ;)
Since I've started looking at newer genetics I'm finding some of them more prone to shock, quite finicky about fert levels etc (compared to older strains). Although, it's just a feeling from my own experience with the strains I've tried (so not scientific). I do used anti-shock ferts nowadays (like B-52 from AN) when I 'water in' after repotting.

If females vegged for long enough show female flower parts, might a male vegged for that long also show male flower parts, possibly inadvertently pollinating your flowering tent?

Well (even though full flowers are not present), I did wonder :) I haven't selected a male yet to shrink down (looking at the Strawberry shortcake strain-Dark Horse Genetics- as the male genetics provider). If that turned out to be the case, I guess I'll harvest pollen (freeze any not needed), make a cutting, kill the parent and start anew each time male parts raise their heads ..so to speak, I did wonder :) I haven't selected a male yet to shrink down (looking at the Strawberry shortcake strain-Dark Horse Genetics- as the male genetics provider). I guess with pollen you don't really need a "Father" plant, a small amount I imagine can last years, it's like talcum powder haha.
