my 24/0 vs 16/8 comparison

Does 24 hours/day of light work better for the veg stage or not? ....some say yes, but I've never tried as it seems so unnatural.....welcome to my comparison

I have two grow rooms with as close of conditions/environments that I can achieve with my limit resources.

I used seeds from a hermie plant, as I figure this will level the playing field for consistency

I germinated 12 seeds and will continue with the top 10 ...five will receive 24/0 and the other five will get 16/8 hours of light/darkness. (I choose 16/8 to maximize the contrast).

I've used solo cups in hempy (perlite/vermiculite) with a soil cap/core and will use the basic Lucas formula

I will veg for about 4 weeks using CFL & LED bulbs, then will move all the plants into a flower room (12/12) under a 600 watt HPS.

Please remember this is just "my comparison", your results may vary

11 of 12 popped.

16F has failed to pop....looks like it's a dead player, so it will get voted off the island first

Growing indoors is unnatural period but at least you can prevent some stretch with 24/0 although I'm fairness I have seen guys running 18/6 and their plants stay bushy and don't seem to stretch so I know that's not the only factor but they do seem to stretch in the dark

Growing indoors is unnatural true, but I think we can try and mimic growing outdoors the best we can. Idk, what do I know though, I've always ran 18/6 and it seems like the bushiness of my plants really depends on strain and what training I do which is usually a lot cause I like em bushy

Sorry folks but I'm close to scrapping this experiment as both grow rooms are not doing well.

I'm not sure why they are doing so poorly but I did used a different approach (deeper soil cap and germinated in paper towels ), plus my home has been chilly....could be not enough lights, or maybe over/under watering.

Just watered today with light nutes...I'll be aborting this grow if they don't perk up soon

I've never been able to pull off sprouting in solos...the watering I mess up.

For some reason starting in at least a G and misting til my hands hurt works better for me.

I tried the cups again recently and had to scrap.

I have used hempy solo cups in the past and had really good results but had used rock wool to start them.

This time I had this bright idea to start germinating in paper towels, then used a soil core.......in retrospect, this was not my brightest idea

why not go the conventional 18/6 leaving the others on 24/0

but clones would make this a sticky ..?

lol

good luck an subbed

ps them stems appear to indicate that the seedlings are growing in the cold

see to ur temps

I felt 16/8 would provide the largest contrast....I agree about the cold, as the rooms never exceed 70F and often are in the high 60's

I may re-start this experiment when the temps improve

I'm new to this concept -- would you veg the entire duration under 24/0 and then flip to 12/12?

I'm wondering if this is a sprouting thing or a full-on veg thing.

Some people run their lights non stop during veg, I personally think 16-20 hours on is the best as the plants need a night time to use the stored energy, grow their roots and cool off plus many other processes

I think doing 16/8 as the comparison was the right move
