Good to know... i'll keep an eye on them. I read that on one of these threads.... havent had issues though... its possible that I end up with some sort of root or stem rot because I had sponge issues and had to transplant to different sponges early on, but I have my fingers crossed...

Yeah man, you don't even need the AG pump on once the roots get well established in the res. That's how I fixed my stem rot, by turning it off.

I DONT KNOW About that..... I never had an issue with my roots or stem with my first grow... and my pump was on 24/7....

I bet there are many other factors that lead to stem rot.... and the pump is just one small "possible" reason....

I bet it is more likely that most of the stem and root rot are derived from those shitty sponges...

If you pay close attention... all of the new AG sponges are made of that weird brown peat shit.... ALOT less conducive to rotting.....

anyone else wanna chime in on this and tell me to go fuck myself???.... lol

i have a buddy that uses an aero garden... im not a 100 percent sure what his routine is... however i am growing some indoors as well but under different lights and not quite hydro... but he started after i did... his plants are twice as tall and have nine fingers on a leaf... magnificent...

yea actually it smart to turn the pump off..i always turn the pump off when the roots touch water.my pump has been pff since week 3..look at my grow. #1.Once they touch water,THEYVE found the water source,so they will continue to grow that way,,the upper roots arens supposed to be WET all the time,,they absorb enough moisture from all the water underneath em #2.ROOT ROT.STEM ROT especially...marijuana does not like the base of the trunk to be wet but just a lil moist or if you lackin sum enzymes with the constant flow of water,,youll get it #3 it fuks with the Ph in the water cause it is a lil motor in the pump and it fluctuates the ph although it rises naturally.Youll make it man just ....listen to people with EXPERIENCE!

ive seen people grow in a system just like the BP or AG with a wide cotton string hanging from the bottom of the pots into the water(pre soaked)and the roots find thier way down into the water.

That is a really good idea, with all the water wicking up the string, they won't have any problem finding the water.

That sounds like a really simple idea.... do they take the string off the instant the root touches water?

I've kept my pump on and I'm into my 3rd grow and I've only had 1 plant get stem rot. By the placement of it, I figured it was the sponges too. BUT, here's my question.....I thought the pump running was to feed the roots oxygen??? Am I wrong about that?

yes that is true,,the pump has a tube connecting to the airstone or whatever you use that are in the water(submersible) and that keeps the water oxygenated.

I use an airstone....so now I'm confused as to why you would turn off the pump? I understand keeping your pods from being too wet and all...but wouldn't you want to keep the oxygen flowing to the root system? I'm confused and just want to clarify the reasoning of turning off the pump.

i love you. haha.. this is journal is badass homie. i have an aerogarden lying around that i got for a birthday a couple years back. instead of growing in it, i opted to go by a GH WaterFarm. haha go figure!?
anyway, i had a question for you, i've heard about growing 12/12 from seed, and just "nugging" the plant. turns each plant into one large fat nug. you know anything about that? would you advise like a week of veg minimum before a forced flower schedule?

lol... your mxing up the 2 pumps....

The AG come with a water pump that flows the water to each grow net... thats the one that is controlled by the base and we are referring to this pump when we talk about leaving it "on" versus turning it "off"...

The other pump is the Air pump that you likely went out and bought... and is attached to your airstone.. that one should be on 24/7... i dont think there is any debate about that...

Does that help clarify things a little??

I havent attempted it myself but I have seen it done on other threads... they just straight up go 12/12 right from the get go... I havent seen anybody do vegg cycle before hand.... I dont know if 1 week of VEG will have much effect on it... Let me know how it turns out

I use an external air pump, my AG doesn't have it's own air pump. So, me turning off my water pump will not affect my.......bubbles, bubbles, bubbles.... my bubbles.

They dont make AG's with air pumps.... just the water pump. Thats why we have all had to add our own air pump + airstone

I think the space saver 6 has an airstone instead of a drip feed, someone on these forums did a grow with one .. can't remember who though.. He had an avatar of kenny chesney or something, can't really remember.

But to the OP on this subject:

You should ALWAYS have your air pump on.

The AG drip feed pump is the one that you should run on cycles or turn it off all together.

yup after the roots hit wate,,theyve found where the water is and dont need the drip,thats the purpose of the drip,to let the roots find the water..That pump fuccs with ur ph and causes STEM ROT.
