you can get the same one at lowes or home depot if you have one close by. I heard they are a bit weaker than the vortex style centrifugal inline fans and for an extra 30 bucks or so you can get those. ofcourse if you're on a tight budget, I think this one will do.

Ive got the same exact fan only i used dryer vent ducting for the duct. It works ok but does move slower with ductwork attached. Its really quiet though. good for intake but poor exhaust. Im getting ready to switch mine.

thats exactly what I did. It works ok but my dayton blower is fuckin strong so IM going to switch em and use the inline for intake.

yea im headed over ther today hopefully to grab one of those.il let u knw how exhaust works with that duct fan.IM pretty sure if i dont have too long of ducting that it should doo something for my 400w...

Ok been long time. my lowes built fan is still running good. its now in the middle pf 2 , 2' long dryer flex tube. took it apart ladt week vaced out dust (not to much) and bam , still kicking it.lol. yea spmething with stonger cfm would be nice, but it still keeps oder down and heat out. peace.....

It works great for you because your exhausting straight outside. You're using it exactly what it was intended for - an inline duct *booster* fan. You have no carbon filter rigged to the exhaust end of it. I'm currently trying to find a fan that will scrub air inside, with a carbon filter on the end of it. Looking like i'm going to have to drop 100$+ on a god damn fan. Ridiculous.

Don't bother putting one on the exhaust, the 500 cfm fan will overpower it and pull air backwards through it.
The inline booster fans don't move much air. I bought the exact ones, the 8" and 10", and even doubled them up. I didnt run any reducer's at all, just 8", and 10" ducting, and i'd bet the 8" moved maybe 200 cfm, and the 10" maybe 350. they arn't really good for anything....as a matter of fact, i needed a 8" piece of duct to make a flange, and i took the motor and fan out and it worked in a pinch. so at least i got some use out of it!
I ended up buying real 8", 750 CFM vortex fans. and 435 cfm vortex fans, now im moving some air.

Why spend scads if you don't have to!! I go for the cheap and what is laying around. Will do this as it seems like a rip off to purchase high end name brand stuff when the same results can be had for less.

I use a similar set up to cool a DYI cool tube I made from an old pyrex baking tube...it's called a bake around or something? But it does the job....keeps the light and the tent pretty cool. I've only got a 400w light tho so not sure how it would do with a higher wattage bulb. At the end of the day tho you'll find vortex fans much better, I have one in another tent and it cools great...the ones from Lowes just don't seem to be able to stand up to the constant use we put them through...mine lasted almost a year under constant use before the blade stuck and fried the motor....now I got fire extinguishers in both tents just in case!
