My attempt at a setup (pics)

hey all, just wanted to post what I am working on. I have a 400w hps light for it, next step is setting up the ventilation but I am clueless on what to use. I have 2 fans, one is a Hydrofarm brand, 1/25 hp 1,550 rpm, the other is smaller in size, it's also 1/25hp but 3,160 rpm(Dayton brand). Which do you guys recommend using(and why)? I'm thinking i might try hydro but who knows, I need to read more.

Here is a couple pics of the box I have been inspired to build... it is 23"x37"x49". I have very limited space and am only looking to get a little bit of personal smoke out of it. I was thinking maybe Pakistan Valley strain but again I need to read up a little more. I am a beginner but I'm trying to read up as much as I can so I don't screw it up. The Pakistan Valley strain description says it is ok to over/under water over/under fertilize etc... so figured it is a good choice to start with if it's a hearty plant.

anyway here are the pics.. sure i may have put more effort into it than what is necessary but that's just how I am.



well, if something looks/sounds wrong/bad idea feel free to criticize away. I know I'm a newbie to this so I am looking for some feedback. I was planning on lining it with foil but have also read it causes burning but it seems the majority say it is ok right? did I go overboard or overlook anything?? btw thanks for all of the great guides/reviews/input etc.

well it seems Aero-Hydroponics setups are pretty easy, it seems I can do a DIY aero setup pretty easily. I'm sure I will make mistakes in the beginning but I'm in no hurry, I need to learn sometime right? What do you all think?? I've been researching for a while and it just seems that would be a fun way to do it, if I fail oh well. I can always try again... and again until I find something that works.. and ofcourse there is always resorting to soil if i fail miserable repeatedly.

this setup will be able to handle a 400w HPS light right?? you don't think it will be too hot or too short of grow space if I grow an indica like Pakistan Valley do you? Does nobody have a reccomendation on what fan to use?? or both even?? I just put the exhaust in-line with the light right? I really would like some input.. I know I am a newbie but I am serious about giving this a shot.

I think maybe start with some cfl's. it is a bit short to try and put a HPS in there. If aircooled then you can have it about 8-12" away from tops of plants. but you only have about 4 ft og height so if you allow 6in for light and reflector, then 8-12in from tops of plants. then 6-10 in high hydro setup that leaves you with probably less than 2 ft of grow room

and the fan simple math LxWxH=cubic ft. divide your cubic ft. by 5 and that is your reccomended cfm for exhausting

in something that small u would prob want to consider an ebb n flow system
with the res outside the box
as of light...thats a pretty small space for a 400w hps
i would use cfl's and hang them all around ur plants

I've actually got some fluorescents on a plant I have right now growing in soil but it is just sitting in the garage and I live in a duplex with neighbors who use their garage daily(our garages are connected) so I decided to make something I can bring upstairs, I guess I got too ahead of myself and built a box too short huh? I still have more room too, I still have close to another foot probably before the box hits the shelf in the closet it is going in so I did have room to play but I thought I read somewhere 4' was enough room for a 400w.. figured since I have fans that an old roommate left around i'd be ok, but oh well.. even if I grow really short indicas you still think the box is too small for a 400w hps??? (whoops... it's already ordered and shipped.. just waiting for it lol) Oh well, I can throw it back up on ebay where i purchased it, was $100 for ballast/housing/light so no big deal.

I thought ive been reading cfl's just dont cut it tho, and u needed something brighter to get the good stuff well if there is a way to make what I have work, what is it?? or do I just throw some fluorescents in there and use it for cloning and leave it in the room and just convert the whole closet for the 400w hps ? lol The room isnt used for anything but storage anyway.. I just didnt wanna go too overboard and make this a big thing since all i want is some personal smoke really

that's like... gibberish to me lol so say.. around 2'deepX3'wideX4'tall/5 is 4.8?? how do I figure out how how to obtain that 4.8 with my fans?

400watts could do wonders 4 u in that cab . outtake on top intake at bottom . you be fine i would be more woried about odor contlrol . dyi cooltube and u be cakeing it. check this out.all cfl by choice . not really i use tomuch electricity as it is . my lil ones watch dora and spongebob all day , shit could be xpencive.

I am thinking I will do a an aero-hydro SCROG sort of setup after more research, either 2 plants or 4 if you think the box can manage it. I already purchased the mylar, timers, and a little cheap ice probe chiller, I know the chiller sucks, but I won't have a very big reservoir(external). I will be using 4" pvc as I seen a guy do on another forum. I'm going to have to buy a new pump though because the one I have probably wont have enough pressure. Do you think 4 is possible for a SCROG setup in that small of box? I'd love to be able to get 4 but if I can't I guess I can just stick to 2 if I have to, or 3, or 6 - whatever you guys think I can manage

It takes 47w, pumps up to 12', 300 GPH.. There was a similar one for the same price, same brand but also did 300 GPH but only 7', it used 23w), did I choose the right one or with my small setup would I have been better off with the one that took less wattage for the same price? I have some cheap water splitter I bought too that splits off to 8 and I got some sprayers, I hooked everything up today and with all 8 running they spray pretty good, that would be enough for 4 plants if you think I can do that with SOG/SCROG. I think I have everything I need, I just need to construct the PVC now. I can't wait to get this thing goin and run it for a day or 2 while I make sure everything is good to go. I will be finishing the system soon but I still haven't decided on a strain, I'm in no hurry though.. I'll complete the box first so I can see what I'm workin with. Think I can fit 4 in there effectively?
