My BlueWidow Cross...

Hey Jonny, your plants look absolutely amazing!! I'm in the middle of my first grow and I'm using a 3' x 3' hydro set-up. I saw in your video that you fill a layer of hydroton in your tray and I want to do the same thing to cover my plants roots and to give more room for roots to grow. I have 2 questions:
1. How do you keep the hydroton from clogging the drain line? I guess stuffing a screen in the tube would probably work
2. Does the bottom of the rockwool cubes touch the tray or is there a layer of hydroton under it as well and if so how much is under the cube?
Thanks alot for any help you could give!!

Thanks nm420, JayDro…Stop in anytime.

are you letting the seedlings grow up to the light? get a little bit taller starting size. but not too stretched out. interesting...or else im really high...likely the latter.

They seedlings were only grown up to the fleuro’s
due to lack of space. Ideally, they should have been
kept at least a few inches away from those and the
CFL’s, and never grown for stretch…Unless you have
the head room.

Thanks, haha.
Those plants look amazing.
I hope you're right that they'll like over 1400ppm. That's pretty high.

No…Thank you. I would never lie to you…They were
raised up to 1450ppm, but have since gone down to
about 1375 after a good flush.

Thanks Bro…Before you put your tray together, you
will need all of the parts. There are plastic fittings
used for both holes that seal them off, and have
½” holes in each. Use plastic some outlet screens
that fit perfectly into them…Check here…

The cubes are on top of about 4” of hydroton, but I
would prefer more so the roots can develop better.

Day 31 Flower

The girls are getting very crowded in my closet.
As soon as my Bluberry are done, two of the
smaller BW will be moved to my other flowering
chamber to finish under the 600w hps…

Some minor pruning was done at the bottom. Some
leaves were taken for air-flow, and lower shoots were
trimmed as well to put more energy into the top bud
sites. This must be done despite how reluctant you
may be to cut them off…It will pay off in the end.

The BB in my 600w chamber have about a week or
so left, and then my girls will be moving in…

Details on this chamber coming soon…

Hey bro thanks alot for getting back to me so quick. Yeah when I bought my set-up, they only gave me 1 of the screen fittings for the drain tube but they didn't give me one for the water inlet tube so I'm going by the hydro shop on my lunch break to pick up some hydroton and the screen that I need and I'll be ready to go.

I guess with a 4" layer of hydroton under the cubes, the water never actually touches the bottom of the cube. It just floods the hydroton and the roots that are growing in the hydroton???

When you're well into flowering like the plants that are in your tray, how many times a day do you feed them?

I think the biggest plus to doing this is I won't need nearly as much water in my reservior!!!

Thanks again

Hey Jonny, thanks again for the help. I filled my tray with 30 gallons of hydroton tonight and it wasn't a second too soon. The roots were POURING through the bottom of the 6" cubes. The roots did look really healthy & bright white so I think they will take off now that they have somewhere to go...peace

Hey Jonny,

how many times a day do you water with your tray set up like this. I set mine up just like yours and I've have been watering twice a day (13 days into flowering) and they seem to be fine.

I was just wondering about when the roots have grown out into the hydroton, if between feedings the hydroton dries out at all, won't that hurt the roots? The reason I ask is the hydroton seems to dry out fairly quickly after feeding.

Thanks

Hey JB,

Long time no see...

I hope you are just off taking a nice leisurely vacation on a beach in Jamaca! Big, fat spliff in hand, of course!

Last update...

I've been around, busy with other things. Had
to get rid of the pics so the journal didn't turn
out as complete as it should have been.

Thanks to all who have stuck around through
my journals...spliffs on me...:joint:

A few last shots of my BW on week 8 of flower
before harvest...:peace:
