What up brother. Glad to see you starting this thread in the Breeding forum. We need more people posting in here!

Damn, you are cranking watts man....you're not worried about the crazy electric bill? Or the sudden jump? Maybe you could run your rooms on opposite schedules to avoid the spikes. You should check out the 'flip-flop' timer dealy I think that'd work great for ya. Also lets you run double the lights off of the same amount of ballasts.

Scribed.

Peace.

Yeah I am making this thing I only know as a flip flop. It is so when one room turns off the next room lights up on the same ballast without it ever turning off..

And yes I am always worried about my bills but they are still under $200 and I am willing to pay up to 450 a month, thats where I will draw the line..

Whaaaaa??????? $200.00/ mo.?? Damn I spend almost that on one 400w HID and two 175w T5's. I do have to run a portable a/c though too. And my figure includes all my other electric consumption as well, so the grow really costs me about $50.00 - $100.00 a month I guess. I just can't run over $200.00/mo. with living in an apartment, or at least I don't want to.

P.S. nice avatar...reminds me of something off of a Magic card.

For plants to be able to grow best it is important that the nutrient pH be slightly acidic - the range of 5.5 to 6.5 is considered ideal for most crops.

Our nutrients are buffered as to not require major adjustments. There are some important exceptions, when poor quality water is used to mix nutrient solution, when pH unstable media is used such as many rockwool and gravel products and when plant growth rates are so high that the nutrient mix is thrown off due to rapid nutrient absorption by the crop.

I have a female and a male both of the same age. The female is bubba kush, she is indica dominant and the male is a bagseed which appears to be indica dominant. I really don't have a goal yet as to the acheived product of selective breeding.

From what i understand pollen can be collected from a male and stored until females are ready to be pollinated. When the time comes i can take the male pollen and carefully rub it on a branch of the female. This branch will then create seeds that are f1 correct?. The rest of the plant will make female buds still? I will then grow out a few f1 seeds and choose the best male and the best female for the given traits i am looking for. Now would i breed these two f1's together or backcross the chosen male f1 to the p1 female? How would one decide where to go with a handful of f1 seeds?

This is a good method

https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/20319-seed-production-tutorial.html

After you cross those two, those seeds are F1, depending on how much you pollinate the plant will determine whether you will get buds or just a bunch of seeds, if you use that method above you can selectively choose where you want seeds. After you get your F1 and grow them out, you breed your best male and female out of that batch which will make F2's, then you do it all over again, with those seeds to create F3, then F4 and so on, i have no experience yet, but this is what i know from reading, im hoping for a male in my current grow and get started on some micro breeding for myself

you start inbreeding once the characteristics you want are more stable which is usually around the F4 stage

since its two different stains there is a whole bunch of phenos that will apprear, so over time your narrow it down to what you like, you can stay in a stage a dabble around until you find what you like

so you would have to keep the original mother plant? this is the only time a backcross can be achieved correct? by backcrossing are you just further stabilizing the characteristics?

after learning more....take pollen from a chosen male. pollinate a whole plant or a chosen healthy branch. this branch will create different seeds with genetics from mother and father varied within each seed. sprout a handful of seeds again choose the best male and female and breed them. im not quite sure how you would choose the best female being that you would have to flower it cure the nugs then smoke them. do you take a clone of each female from seed and label according? smoke all the females then choose the best clones taken prior to?

This thread is great.
What I have in the making

Dutch passion WW X AK47
Big Bud X AK47
SSH X AK47

As you can tell the only male pollen I have is the AK.
Once I successfully breed these I will play between breeds to come up with a ridiculous Strain

"BigWhiteGattyHaze"

You heard it here 1st.

You dont need the original mother or father, you can just use pollen from the new males, but you can keep the pollen from P1 if you want, most the time when people breed they start with in IBL, inbreed line, which would be like White Widow and White Widow. What your doing and i will be doing as well is crossing two different strains, which each have there own make up of different characteristic's. its not just the bud, you looks for good node spacing, fast growth, female or male plants that smell in veg, stuff like that, but those do count as well like overall Yield, High, and other things

thos is just from what i have learned so far :)

Yes that all sounds about the direction Im going.

The females I have chose are my F1's
best producers, resistant to abuse, not finicky eaters
so on and so on.

The male on the other hand was the only male I could come up with.

So I can only assume that once these have been breed then the natuaral selection of mothers starts over again.

My only confusion is the male part.

I can always have the same consistent females by selection but, how do we "weed" out the good males?

I can understand about tight node spacing and what would be a healthy parent but their are so many variables with female phenos within the same batch

Surely the same is for the males.
Seems like hit or miss with fathers.

Answers please.

in order to backcross isnt a parent plant needed? you are saying i can use the new males pollen to backcross? not sure i follow here.

how long can pollen be stored? ive heard in the freezer is the best way to store?

i to am on the breeding bandwagon so to say.,.,going to start a bagseed breeding program to ensure that i have phenos and characteristics that arent in any seeds u can purchace.,.,basically i want to originiate not imitate with the taste and smell/lo0k of the herb i breed i have very high .,.,.standards (i had i high cant find the word moments,lol).,.,ill be watching the progress of this breeding project.,.,

Im pretty sure the males are all the same, but like MOG you can get traits like purple balls n shit like that, i mean you can look for the same things in males you do in females, how much balls he produces, how early they open up, rubbing the stalk of the plant to see is it smells, like you said there is alot of factors, MOG should clear this up soon, im going to post thing in the section i have found

Yea i was wonder the same thing but from what i was told even the pollen from the F3 batch is the same as the P1 pollen or there really isnt a difference, you can just save pollen in a container like you would keif or something, if you do that method i posted you just use a paint brush to pollinate where you want, i still want buds to smoke

also the guys that are breeding for flavor, high or color how does one achieve this?
