Tons of info out there but what I have personally discovered is:
1. Chop too early = no smell. Do not take the breeder's flowering period as gospel. I have found that autos go at least 80 days from germ. and photos at least 10 weeks from switch to >= 12 hour dark period. EDIT: And of course you need to check those trichomes. If you find yourself thinking "I think I see enough cloudy", check them again in a week.
2. Dry too quickly = grass/hay smell that no amount of curing will fix. You want at least a week to dry. If your drying area is at or below 60%RH do not wet trim. Dry trimming is a huge PITA, but I have found that leaving all but the largest fan leaves on when drying slows the process down considerably.
