of course it can. switch ballast to 400; its a 400 bulb. no prob. just dont go up on a bulb. except the extra on the 1000. i do. the switchables are great, if you are running a 1000, and it gets hot out, switch it down to 600. 400 watts of heat reduction, can keep your plants happy. if not, drop it to 400. the 1000 bulbs run on any position.

ok i wasnt sure if the ballast would run a 400 hps on the dimmed for some reason, i dunno.
Got the lightspeed hps today hooked up real quick to make sure ballast was not faulty, Works Gr8 Looks bright so far.
Another question, i need a hood or cooltube, not sure about cooltube as i would thinkg u would loose length footprint and have anice wide one though, anyway for now i have Batwing the surface above the bulb is flat no "difusser" i think it is called, will that kill my bulb should i add a crease in the middle?
