i had a few things already to start so i made 2 different air filters for the first one i got an activated carbon prefilter that you can cut to size and a 4 inch vent end cap i used a screen from the end cap to the 4 inch duct booster fan that cools my light and wrapped the filter around it..

the other was more involved i got a 6 inch end cap a 4 inch end cap and a 6 to 4 inch adapter and a short 4 to 4 inch connector first i made a 4 inch inside chamber by using screen and the 4 inch end cap and 4 inch connector and then the out side was the screen with the 6 inch end cap and he 6 to 4 adaptor put the inside chamber in the outside one and fill the space with activated carbon i got from the pet store put the top on and hook up the fan.right now i have a 4 inch duct booster fan on that as well but a better fan will clean the room better but this works very well for now.

I'm not trying to take your thread over, but I have a question.
There are activated carbon pad things at wal mart made for aquariums.
Will this work?

i made some changes now its way better at about the same cost.6 inch duct booster fan was $26 got 2, 8 inch end caps $3 each. one for the bottom, cut a 6 inch hole in the other .have a 6 inch inside screen and a 8 inch out side screen a short 6 inch piece to go through the end cap you cut the hole in, to the inside screen about 2 inches in so all air must go through the carbon.fill the space between the two screens with carbon.i got mine from pet smart i think it was $13 a half gallon it took 2 of them.put the end cap with the 6 inch pipe going through it on.i used self tapping screws to hold it all together.put the fan on and go.with the ones i made for the lights.this is all i use and i smell nothing in here with 6 budding plants. ask away..i'll get back asap.

in walmart by the hepa and the replacement filters they have the activated carbon pre filters that you cut to fit your filter it was like $10 and i had some left over.my light has a 4 inch hole in it for a fan so i got a 4 inch duct booster fan and a 4 inch end cap and made a screen to connect them and wrapped the pre filter around it.this helps too so i'm doing the same thing to my 1000w light with a 6 inch fan

Looks good but the BIG question, Does it work?
I'm also in search of some type of odor control and I think I will be going with
an ONA bucket.
