hi everyone. I had an idea. Since ballasts probably give off a lot of heat id like to have them outside of the tent. I have found a extension cord that might work. Here is a link to the one I have and the cord.

will this work and is it worth it? temps are 81 lights on, 71-73f lights off

cord

315w cmh

I ask this because come flowering ill have two 315w cmh's in there and thatll probably add too much heat!

currently using 6" 440cfm exhaust fan
two 8" passive intake ports
and 2 40" tower fans

81 isn't too high for flower. I mean you can move them but those cmh ballast don't seem to make all that much heat imo. However dont cheap out on the extension for a ballast cable. I mean 22 bucks for a good quality cable is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

I have to passive intake poets open being sucked by a 6” exhaust fan. I have a 40” tower fan in there. Where should I take temps at? I lay the unit at bottom of tent next to pots under light. Maybe that causes wrong reading?

If your passive ports are open and your pulling air fast enough you should be a few degrees higher than the ambient room temps.

Silly question but what do the plants look like? Any sign of heat stress? And drooping is from too much water no matter how much you water or when. Wilting of plant material is heat.

How high do you have your fans turned on. What's the ambient temp outside of the tent? You may simply need to turn the fans up a bit
Tower fan is on speed 2 of 4. So medium low I guess. The exhaust fan is on high. Maybe my ambient temp is a couple degrees lower. I’ll check later.

Also in regards to @hotrodharley i never said anything about droopy
Leaves but I noticed after watering them, they tend to stoop down but a hour or so later they perk up. That normal?

Those 315 ballasts put off a lot of heat if wired 110v. The original Phillips ballast was 220v, meaning they used a step down to get to 110v making it less efficient running an extra 40-50 watts for step down, and running hotter from more resistance on hot wires.

Bump for advice. 88 degrees today
If you have the thermo on a reflective tent floor in the light you are getting the wrong reading most likely. Try and hang it along side a pot that is in shade, if root zone temps in shade are around 65-75 you are doing ok.

Is your tower fan oscillating and pointing slightly up?, that will better help suck cooler air from the bottom and push it up into the canopy and above. If it's directly straight it can push a lot of hot air down. Having a passive intake on either side of the tent is good. If you don't have that option, make sure the higher out take is on the opposite side to the passive intakes, you can use more duct, move the can to that end for same effect. Make sure your can is big enough and not restricting out take. Also make sure your in-takes are not gushing in air They should very lightly suck a bit of dust through them.

Unless you are in a warmer climate you should not struggle to use 2x 315 with a 6" out take set-up well. If you are in a warmer place, putting the ballasts out side the tent might not make much difference, since your passives may well take back in most of that heat depending on the out side room conditions. You may be better served stepping up to an 8" out take fan if so. That said, it assumes your passive air is not bottle necked by the room/house temps. Is it passive as in tent > room > outside air via big enough window, etc?.
