My dilemma.

Today I loaded a prepaid Visa money card to purchase everything I'd need related to marijuana. This includes in stores and online. Now, I find myself with just enough money left for either seeds or lights. So, here's the question: Do I buy lights and grow shitty bag seeds until I get done with my community service and get back to my real job, or buy quality seeds and grow with shitty fluorescent lights? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each? Thank you.

id say go with the good lights then use shitty bag seeds. you can grow real good stuff out of a shitty bag seed. dont let the look of the bud it came from fool you. and on the other end you can grow real shitty bud out of a good seed its all about how grow it. so id say get good lights
hope i helped

How long until you could afford a decent light?

You could buy the flouros for vegging and veg between 3-6 weeks maybe allowing you enough time to get $'s for a good flowering light???

Welcome to RIU Kricket,
Personally I would lean towards buying the lighting and getting a grow under your belt with unknown seeds. Who knows, those bag seed could be better than the genetics you would have bought. Start roughly twice the amount of seeds you think you want to grow out, that way you can cull the weaker kids out of the playground when you up-can.
Just my .02

Well, another problem I've got is that I've only got two bag seeds that have sprouted. None of the others germinated. And, until this community service is done, I'm probably not gonna be getting any more weed. I'm extremely low on extra cash because I'm working about 3 days a week doing the service and 2 days a week at the normal job. Being a teenager sucks. :-( So, what if I get the lights and then these seeds are both male, or something? Would I have wasted my time? And would you suggest springing for some cheap 1000w MH and HPS lights that I can get online (Are these bad quality?), or should I buy moderately priced 600w bulbs because this is such a small grow?

It's a fair sized room, but I have made plywood walls that can easily be inserted to decrease the size. Walls are going to be coated with Mylar in the next day or so. So, I can adjust the size of my grow room to whatever I need. Let's say that I'll have it at 4x4x8 for this. It can be made smaller, and I've also made a ceiling piece of wood, as well to reduce the height of the ceiling if needed.

I wouldn't make the false ceiling - it'll hold in the heat more. In a 4' x 4' x 8' space I'd run a 600 MH/HPS - 1K might be too much light and then there is the heat issue.

So, I should get the 600s for a small grow? But what if I were to grow the same amount of plants in a larger area I'd be able to use the 1000w bulbs, correct? Then I could have the 1000w bulbs for a later date as well.

Choose which ever wattage you feel comfortable with - I like the 600's but that's just me & my grow style.

Do you know if 1000bulbs is a reputable source? I just ask because a lot of their bulbs seem affordable when I heard they're expensive.

I use my local plant shop for most of my supplies, but I've been looking for a online supplier as well. Thanks for the tip.
I wish I had a local shop - in this instance its unfortunate I live in a remote place. But then again, HTG has numerous times shipped via flat rate USPS & that is pretty damn reasonable !

I found my local one via CraigsList! LOL. Was checking out CL one day, thought I'd type in Grow Light and this local shop that just opened up came up with a special grand opening discount. I called them up and found out they were literally just down the street from me. Ended up being 3 buddies opened the place ... they do it all and have it all on the shelf, hydro, soil, organic ... everything. Really awesome, friendly and helpful ... oh, and they know all about Mary! Since I was one of their 1st customer, I get 20% discount on everything (I guess forever ... they always give me the discount), carry the bags of soil out to my car and they are way cheaper than the hydro shop that is clear across town.

That being said, I've been looking for an online shop. I've been debating on setting up a second grow room (1 veg, 1 flower). If I do, I want to be able to price some items online vs. my local place.
