MY DIY cab! Almost done need some tips. (pics)

Ive finally almost finished building my cabinet, its kinda small but being my first grow I thought best to go cheap then upgrade later.
Most of the parts used I already had but the light cost me £40.

The light is a 150w hps
I have at the moment 4 PC fans

2x 80mm and 2 120mm

the 80's are pulling air into the cab and the 120's are pulling air out from the hps keeping the heat down.

I have a bathroom fan which I was thinking of attaching to the top of the cabinet and make a DIY carbon scrubber to attach to the top of it.


Im not very good with air movement and was hoping you guys could chip in with a few suggestions what to do with the stuff I have to get airflow and odour sorted whilst my seeds are germinating.

I took these pics to show you what I have to work with!

I was also thinking of using some kind of pully system to make moving the light up and down easier at the moment its all done by string and is very limited.

I also attatched a peice of glass to hand below the bulb which keeps heat down so hopefully I can get the light closer to the plants.

btw Odour is my main concern with this grow

Look for a low odor strain. You definately have air movement with 4 pc fans and a b'room fan on top.
Definately a light pully system...good choice

All exhaust air needs to be put through the scrubber or you will have odor issues. The 2 pc fans pulling air from your box will negate the bathroom fans efforts.

Okay those two fans are the 120mm ones maybe I should move those to the bottom and have then pulling air in and cover the top two holes completely?

Then the bathrrom fan will be pulling out the air thru the scrubber once its made.

Im just a bit worried about the fans pulling in air faster than the exhaust can pull it out.

use the bathroom fan too remove air and have passive venting holes this way you cut down on power used and noise from fans. the bathroom fn can exhaust into a carbon scrubber by means of a short duct tube.

PC fan/s could be used too move air around plant and towards light for air movement.

that glass gonna get very very hot i peronaly wouldnt trust it. last think you need is that breaking and falling onto seedlings/plants.

sounds good tamzi, are you sure doing this will stop any odour escaping, meaning the extractor fan must be pulling out all the odour and not letting it just float out the intake holes.

About to break out rhe drill and jigsaw anyone elese wanna chip in with a few ideas before I start making more holes.

so long as the exhaust fan ( bathroom fan) is ejecting air from the room, you should have no leakage of smell. but if filter and/or fan is clogged or stops working then smell will start too escape.

i tend too treat my grow cab like a PC. they use a low air presure inside case too allow clean cool air drawn into case via fans and/or passive venting.below is what i have n my 19h-15w-15d ( inch) cab

main exhaust fan of 65.5 cfm 12cm fan @12v

Air movement via 2x 4cm 12v fans in parallel running @ 4.8v these will be bumped up too 8cm fans once seedling has had its LST done and help seedling start a strong stem. and a passive vent of around 6cm ( squared)

listening too fans speed will help you also. a fan whose RPM falls once cab is closed and sealed up = not enough passive venting. the fan struggles as it trys its hardest too draw air into the cab.

never ever make too many passive vents. start small. one vent maybe two (small) and run lights and fans, allow room 15/20 mins too get too working temps, take your reading. switch of lights and leave fans venting for 15/20mins and take temp again. with these basic temp readings you can then start too refine the passive venting adding more or blocking off.

a correctly ducted room shouldnt have much trouble with heat. too test your passive venting is working correct use some light toilet/kitchen paper. place this over your vent notice how it sucks onto and into vent. this is the low presure inside case drawing in cool air. if that paper fails too be drawn towards the vent it is not working. you have too much venting so some needs too be blocked of.

hope that helps alittle. there are lost a variables as one cab is never the same as another. eg: fan size/cfm, lighting, filtering etc etc.
