My Electrical Problems...i need the Juice

I kind of piggybacked my prolem on someone elses post, so for thos of you who have helped me so far like Mr. Madcow and others...Many mahalos. But I thought I should post my own thread,my own problem. I am so electrician so any and all ideas appreciated.


I live in a town house 2 br up and a bath up and the rest down. there is a 15amp breaker that runs the left side of apt up and down and 20amp breaker the same for the right side.thats it for the whole house (excluding the 2 30amp for the water heater/ w/d dishwasher refer, and all the kitchen stuff) pardon my ignoance are the called breakers or fuses? anyway
one bedroom is my grow room. and of course its the left side 15amp.

I have 2 600w hps on light mover for my flower room. flood and drain tables so all the pumps and all types of fans.oscilatting,ventilation, air cooled hoods. my veg is a 4'x4' tent with a 400w mh. cloning chamber runs on 4 T5's.

Obviously the 15amp cant handle. so I have been running extension cords from other BR..its ugly and low and behold isnt working anymore. something happened and the extension cord coming from my bedroom with the 20amp breaker had a bit of a meltdown, the strange thing is, now my bathroom lights and fan dont work and they ran off the 15 amp breaker. but the outlet in the bath still works so at least i can have a lamp for light in my bathroom. so I am at a crossroads. This place is pretty old and built cheaply so I am assuming the cheapest minimal wiring is used throught the building. so what can i do. i cant just add a larger breaker using existing wiring right, I am thinking not. it looks like there is some space in the breaker box to add another switch or 2,i mean I havent unscrewed the breaker box to see whats behind there, but there is two spaces at the bottom of the box that has no switches. I dont know can I add another switch and some heavier wiring up through the floor alonf the wall. I dont need it to be urried in the wall, I just want more power running to my grow room on wiring I know can handle it. i dont have faith in hte wiring of this apt uilding. so How can I get the power i need to run my room without burning the place down.
the one good thing is the slumlord never comes around to fix anything...she never comes at all, I know I am not getting my security deposit back so drilling some holes throw floors and walls is of no concern. I just dont want to burn the place down.

I cant run a generator..thats not viable. in fact that just sounds supid, I should just erase that ..haha 4$ a gallon/ toxic vapors/ lots of noise........idiot

Can i add like a 50amp or 30amp breaker and run my own wiring to my grow room. How do I go about doing that without getting an electrician involved. Thanks to all who read and offer ideas...

I have all the respect for those willing to learn and do it themselves. For those who take the risk and grow in an apartment or town house. But, I am a little concerned to give any advice because you know so little about growing and hardware. When I first started I know 100% nothing about electricity. Now, I can wire a three phase genset, and have done been responsible for home, other grows and large performance horse barn set ups. But I know nothing about your electrical situation or regulations that you have to abid by nor general code simplified for your US state. I live in Canada, so everything is fucking over kill and safety safety safety. What I would do is:
See what your entry service is, do this by calling your local hydro supplier. I think you prob about 100 or 125 AMP max, but maybe even 60amp of your in a older building built in the 70's. 125Amp for those townhouse with 5 bedrooms and a garage. Than, a 240v line, from the box after you buy a double pull 30amp breaker. This will only work IF you wire your ballast from 120V to 240V. It's to easy to do. OR bring you ballast back to the shop you bought it from and tell them you want it 240V. (they will do it fro free i bet)
Have a friend with you if you do this yourself. And do not feel stupid turning the power off, make sure the new breaker is in the off position and that you will have a black and red wire to the breaker. Now go buy some 10gague 300V wire. Its prob about $3-4 a meter or yard.
Remember, now you need to get a large timer, perferb a TORK timer. Go to the grow shop and get them to wire a 4 outlet TIMED with a TORK timer on it. So now all your ballast go into the timer outlets. No more 1800watt 20 dollar timers! Those wil burn the place down and kill your next door kids.
Theres more to this, just go to your local hardware store, tell them you want to put a tanning bed in or something and if you get caught lieing. Fuck it, Say thanks for your time I guess. This info will give you a head start! Atlest u wil know how much u can pull off the box since u know the entry service.
But in all truth.
I would get a electrician and he will come, after a few hours he's done, and he has ALL the materials etc You will feel good when you made that choice. Oh. hehe it's really a breaker, but it's action is the same as a fuse.. But maybe different were u at.?
