I know I said I would be suspending the build...I lied as soon as I posted that I changed my mind So here are some new Ideas for side lighting. I dont know if this idea is orginal but I like. Check it out
Photos will be coming. I dont have the chord for my camera(bought new chord offebay last night). My phone camera is god awful. Alright so what do you think about this. So side lighting. So I wanted to do side lighting but didnt want to moved 4 lights(one 600w and then 3 sides covered by shop lights ballasts) each time a plant grew(fluros have to be close to light). So I started to think. Not a good idea.lol.
So we ripped up carpet and laid lanoleom(cost 5 bucks off CL) over the weekend. I am not sure what these are called but you know how sliding doors work right. Well last night I got the idea while using my shower. What if we put guides from sliding doors then attached to Fluro Ballasts(for side lighting)so they could be moved much easier. Thats what I did. I went to walmart bought shoplights(mix of hot and cool) and pretty much everything I needed and went to work. I made 3 ballats with 3 lights each with a good mix of light. I used liquid nails to put the male guide to the fixture( a little more complicated but you get the concept). I fastened the the the female guides to the floor and ceiling via screws(love that I dont have any neighbors yet and I can do this at 1-3 am). There are hanging hooks on the fixtures. I then took parachute chord attached it to hook(on thefixture) the chord runs from the hook to a pulley that is placed 3.5ft feet above the ground. This allows me the option to move all three lights from the door pretty much painlessly(since they slide in sliding door guides). Im also thinking about attaching the side lighting ballasts to a spring of some sort which would force it towards the center(like attaching a bungee chord from the light to the center of the grow area). This is resistance would allow for the lighting to be move towards the center(ie closer to the plants) if I wanted with out ever moving the door way. All the chords run to 3 different hooks which are all next to the entrance. This allows for 4 sides of lighting(1 600w 3 fixtures).
I am sorry I dont the exact wattage I was up till 3 doing this and now at work. In my opinion it is a pretty sweet set up. Im sure there are ton of people with WAY better sets up than us but I love it. Its super clean, organized, and super stealth. I mean a hidden wall that not even the landlord noticed(stoped by monday). No body knows about it but the two of us and and you guys. Not even W.Churchill's girlfriend knows. She didnt spend the night till Sunday which by then the wall was already up. Once agian I dont have a ton of experience with different set ups. However, this room is sweet looking. Everything was super cheap mostly purchased of CL including the wall mirror, etc. If any of you have advice please throw it this way. I wont be offended if you think this is a stupid idea. Im open minded to any advice. Our exhaust runs through a carbon filter whic is then pushed into the bathroom. Our intake is light proof. The mirror system is incredible. I love that to. I just feel like scooby do each time. I just pull a chord and it opens(later it will be a book not finished).
There is still room for a veg box to be hung. Will someone give me some advice on what you think about it. Churchill wrote about it earlier in thethread. If we do it, which I amsure we will, they will be hung on the hidden wall so access is very easy right above the mirror.
Once again sorry for poor grammar and spelling. Like W.Churchill english was not my first or second language. So I appologize if its hard to understand the process of my build hard to describe it. I wish you all the best and enjoy your day.
