My First Attempt at Growing

Well I have read, and probably not understood, so as you read you think you can do better, and I had a spare room, and a couple of quid, so I thought I would take the plunge.

I started Buying 5 Big Bud from Senssi two came up, poped them in them in rockwoll and the once a 3/4 cm in the xtreame propigator, dropped the lid on one, so one left, but doing ok.

Picked up 5 White Widow, 3 out of 5 this time, think temp was all over the show. in prop and doing ok,

Picked up 5 Jack Here and 5 Money Maker, 9 out of the ten, Might have the seed thing cracked at last.

Now just pop them n the soaked Rockwoll and leave them on the top of the prop which runs at 24, rather than soaking and stuff.

I have a 300w cls on the prop, and I think I dropped it too low and burnt some of the leaves, raised it and raised it again and all seems well now.

added Canna Start, read Pack and it said for non recycling set-ups, mixed it in prop anyway at 330 ppm, meant to be 300 but missed, ph6 temp 24degC lighting 24/7 using r/o water.

Getting grow room ready, thought I would have a go at "Irish Webby" tubes, 160mm mesh pots and Clay, sprayed from two 360 misters from a 200liter tank, wondering about putting another in line, so I can get nuts stabilised before adding it back to the mix.

Finished working out the auto light raising system, see what happens, and waiting on a few bits from China, Wondered about putting Growtronix in, but alos looking at chinese PPM and PH controllers with switched outputs thought bang a dosing pump on these.

But hey you are the guys that have done it a zillion times before. Input Required please, I'm just a Nerd that thought he could grow.

You have a nice setup but yet some of your plants may have a deficiency of some sort or maybe an overload of nutes, just not sure how to call this one

I think you need to re-examine your setup and operation as your plants are doomed if you can't get control of it.
Pic 8, 9 & 10 look dreadful, so I would recommend getting your act together before wasting a couple more quid

Your pH looks good so pics 8,9,10 say add a cal/mag asap!

Your plants are dying. Some have nute burn and some have a deficiency. Your gonna need way more light too for that many plants. Good Luck.

Yes correct, two Babes are well sick, to be honest was going to dump them but thought I would put it to the experts as I really do know SFA.

How do I tell the differance between Nute Burn and Lamp Burn?

I Got the brown bits before I added the nutes, they have developed out and the new growth seems to be sprouting cleanly, so if light as i hoped the it is further away and if it is nutes than deffecency should hopefully be fixed now, as it is running at 330 ppm, till I can get them moved over to the new rig.

How do I check for Cal/Mag Deff, can I meter this or is it a full analiser Job.

Got some more lights, not the ones I wanted, but Dual Spec 600w HPS, Got 5 atm so Hopefully should handle for a bit, Wanted Gav Plasmas, but WOW! you seen the bills.

can I start by just saying you've made it harder for yourself. you've picked a tough medium, needing to use nutes and balancing shit etc. may I suggest starting with soil as your medium as it has everything your plants need for like up to 2 months. I'm a newbie too and have some grow and bloom nutes but my plant magic soil should mostly have it coming, especially if I pot up which I am short of that, I suggest seriously watering down your nutes and introducing them much slower and diluted so you don't over do it. also you might not want to plant any more until you got this down so just be patient and keep your grow small

Hey come on this is progress, at first I could not get the seeds to grow, now i just kill the seedlings, so out of 20 seeds, I had 13 seedlings, killed one, and the two sick ones, but the other 10 seem fine, ok they did get burnt a bit, but the new leaves look great. I bang some more pics and then please advise, If I need to bin these two fine, but as I said it really is my first grow, soil may have been easier, but them I would not have learnt Hydroponics, which was that area that interested me. Hence the Tubes.

I would recommend drain to waste (hempy) if you really want to go hydro on your first grow, as hempy is the most simplistic form of hydro

I would recommend you buy lots more seeds, as I predict more doom and gloom for your 10 so called healthy plants

go soil for a start.try this setup in a year..

Not wanting to disagree with anyone but id go with dwc for hydro. So easy to do if you have a ppm meter.

My first grow was dwc and it was great. Around 10 zips per plant. Huge. I do agree with this though. You say that your a nerd but you dont say if you can garden. Dirt is really forgiving and simple to use. Just water and watch football. Its that easy most of the time. Once you get through a grow or two then pull all that stuff out and see if you can boost production. Or in the mean time grow yourself some basil and lettuce in it until you think youve got it mastered. Stay away from peppers and tomatos in hydro because they just get too damn big.

OK Thanks for the input, In response I can garden, done green house Tomatoes and bits before, but really it is just putting seeds in the ground and chucking a bit of water on it. But as i said i had a spare room, and no matter if they all die, I don't want to drag a load of soil through the house, and the idea really was to learn to do Hydroponics, I don't need to harvest Massive Buds, in two weeks, and if it fails well Hopefully next time it won't. I wanted to run a fog down the tubes, but thought just spraying them with water and nuts would be fine for now, I Looked at dwc, flood and drain, NFT, Fogging and sort of came to the point where if I run a couple of 200 liter containers of water and nut, then feed each plant through twin 360 misters, seperate pumps for redundancy, then it will at least get wet and prob aim for about 1500ppm and 5 min every 15/20 mins (see what effect the lights have on humidity), Drop the plants in Mesh Pots and support with clay balls. Lights 18/6 although with the auto critical I read 20/4 was best. Guess the others will have a long veg period while the others finish off, Have the lights mounted on worm geared motors, run off a timer so hopefully they will keep optimal height, just finished the gantry today, need to sort a couple of 555 timers for the progress, hope it is linear.

For the future got a LGP Generator that i wanted to back feed and use to increase the CO2, and need to sort moisture and humidity but not started on these yet, currently going to feed filtered exaust from room, to another room for drying and then circulate it for heating.

And that is about as far as i have thought on the matter.

The Plants I had and still have a couple of sick ones and I burnt the leaves generally with the light being too close and i think you can see the new growth is all healthy now.

Ph and PPM has dropped and I think i will keep it slightly lower as it has been sugested that I had Nut burn.

How old are they? How much space do you have?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to learn hydroponics, but I think what people are trying to say is that it's often best to learn how to grow the bud first and then dial in the hydro. God bless your grow, but a lot of people find it wrong to waste good seeds trying to figure out this learning curve (perhaps work on growing out some of those 'maters in your hydro system while you run a few hempy buckets?)

Have you considered splitting up your space some so you can veg/bloom at the same time. Won't be long before you're sick of waiting to finish flowering before starting another round.

Yeah I did wonder about running a couple of buckets up as well, I do sort of understand that I have to be able to grow as well as hyrdo, seed wasting, yeah, I can understand but there a couple of quid each so it is not too bad and I sort of rack it to training costs.

Dividing the space for a veg grow environment, well, I may sound slightly confident in what I have put together, but I have no idea if it will work, so might end up stripping it all out and going to pots, and I didn't want to build the next room up yet for this reason, the next room is about twice the size, but I have no idea what to do with it if I grow that much, it was just an exercise originally that is a little out of hand, and growing, also had another room for seedlings and clones, just not done any thing with it yet, just the prop in the corner.

As I said before I wanted decent lighting in but these are nearly a grand a piece so later for these. may even have to sell a little stock to pay for them.

All this is really me just being a stupid smart ass, you know you keep seeing people doing it and thinking you could do better, I probably can't, I defiantly am o greenhouse guru, but it it needs to be kept as a temp ph and ppm, I can understand this and do that bit, but when it needs to be brown enough or damp enough, unless I can measure it, I am probably screwed. does this make sense?

Got a problem sourcing the pump for the misters, any ideas what sort of pressure it needs, I can do Gals per hour, but do the misters need to disperse and minimize droplet size at a certain pressure, should have done this with a proper Gardner I suppose, but I don't know any one who grows, and only purchased from one guy, that to be honest I would not ever wish to get involved with. So I guess it is me alone, at least less people to grass me up.

So ok, I will pop some in pots...

Ok Finishing off the tubes today, the PUMP what sort of pressure am I looking at for standard non spinning 360 40 l/h misters, unless any one has a better suggestion?

And will 15mm tube be on, thinking at feeding two pumps in to the same pipe, with non return valves so if one drops then I am not in the shit, well no more than usual?

Yep.I would not get things too cimplicated for no reason.Simple as that .

So for this then do I just pop drippers in the net pots, and hold the plants still in the clay pellets? That way can stay with the tubes, or do I need to scrap that and just run buckets?

Little bit worried at the infrastructure is pretty much in, Timers arrived for the feed pumps today and don't relish taking it down.

Is it really that difficuilt to do it aero with misters, if itis just technial PH and TDS and keeping nuts flowing then that should not be a problem?

Well I have to accept your findings, I flushed the system out and replaced the Nuts up tp 430ppm this time and many thanks for the input, they sprung back are looking awsome, I will post a pic tomorrow. Cheers to the kick.
