My First Cfl Grow In The Process!

thanks for visiting !!!!for the next week ill have to be careful, because i currently dont have a ph meter....(i know how important it is hydro) so i have to wait a week until i buy one... fking paycheck ! lol but i really hope they do rocket "to the moon" !!!!
You can get PH test strips from pool supply store for just a few dollars, times are tough though. It is Real important to get these quickly as hydro nutes tend to raise the ph. If you are going blind it could be a problem. However, you do not need to be concerned as much with overwatering it as you do soil, I watered mine for 15 minutes twice daily. The first watering I would do before I turned the lights on, and the second was halfway into the day cycle. or whenever I got home from work.

Wait to see how the first one you transplanted fairs. If it wilts and dies no biggie you have others to replace it... if you repot them all and than find out it is a problem you'll have just wasted your time with them earlier. Better safe than sorry imo! I'm just using soil as of now so I can't speak from experience but I've read as DoctorGreen has stated that Hydro nutes raise the pH of the water. Thats the reason I'm sticking to soil for my first two grows, I need a buffer (safety net) just in-case my "noob" antics and equipment stress my plants!

I would put the second one in as well as you have a pretty sweet cheap setup. In my first hydro grow I put my "mother plant" into the hydro solution and it eventually took over my closet. I had a separate grow box for clones under another hydro tank as well. You just have to consider if you intend to start cloning as different nutes are needed for the different stages of growth. This is quite easy to understand but doing something is different than just talking about it.

I would highly recommend eventually keeping one of your plants in veg permenantly with hydro. Then take the cuttings off them and dip them in root solution and plant them in small pots until they can sustain transplant to hydro. I have never actually just placed a seed in hydro, you need roots. It is a badass feeling to have self sustainable ecosystem within the comforts of your closet. It is even better when you are harvesting nugz every 3 weeks:)

I'll just add one more thing. Hydroponics won't necisarily increase the quality of you bud to the extremes unless you match the environment to which the strain grows naturally. This can be obtained using soil as well. The main point I see in hydro is that it is easier to control the environment and the nutrients. If you do not have the capital required for ph testing, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) tester, you may want to hold off on hydro until you do so. You need a ph of 6.5-7.2 and a TDS of less than 1200 to do well in hydro. Once your TDS gets to around 1000 is when I normally would make new solution.

thanks for the descriptive info.. +rep
and im not sure if i wanna go 100% hydro, but i was thinking of making a bubble cloner, and putting clones in soil....

why i grow: im not growing to have the greatest buds of all time nor to have the highest yeilds.... im growing to expand my knowledge about everything i could possibly do at home.....in computing, i mastered HTML,CSS, and im learning php and action script.... im learning the basics of electromagnetism, electricity, cultivation, physics.... im just trying to learn everything i can....im also growing because i have, like everybody else, problems. i suffer from major depression(since im 14), i have arthritis in my fingers.... which does not help with my job (html website creator....typing hurts when i type more than 25 minutes at a time....) i also have restless leg syndrome, insomnia, eating disorders, knee pains(my tybia femur and knee cap scratch together(hurts like fuck)),and euhhh thats all i can remember for now....

where i live: quebec canada....

age:19
birthday: every year....(september 10th)LOL

things i love: music (rock....paramore,System Of A Down,Bullet For My Valentine, linkin park,i know its not rock but.... BOB FUCKIN MARLEY !!!!!), making people laugh, pot movies, marijuana in all its forms, and smoking with my mom(AKA bestfriend)....

DUDE!!!
Paramore, SOAD, BFMV, BOB MARLEY!!!!!!!! Sounds like we both have great taste in Music.

Anyways, it saddens me to see you go to hydro. I dont believe i will be much help for you any more but ill still be here to support you.

I'm making me a bubble cloner, Believe it or not but when I topped one of my plants, I put the cutting in my Fish Tank right above the airstones. Im not planning on it working but if it does.......That would be fucking awesome!!!! LOL

I think I may stay true to Soil, I dunno, I think I just want to master growing in Soil before I advance to a hydro setup.

well im not going 100% hydro... im only keeping my mothers in hydro......... ill take clones and put them in soil until they can be flowered.... i know its sounds weird cuz usually wee dont keep both hydro and soil :P....
ha and in you fishtank...if it works, damn gotta buy some fishies and a tank :P !!!
glad to see people still like good music.....(no fucked up vocal changes and shit.....fake drums, keyboards.....)but do you listen to rise against ? they rule !

I also like rise against, and used to like SOAD, but they got too weird for me. Try listening to five bolt main and Flaw, they are right up that alley for that style of Rock, they just are not all that well known.

I love growing with CFL's...it is my new favorite hobby! I have been experimenting with them for about 3 years now and have found you can get a great yield with two 42 W 2700k bulbs above and two 23 W 2700k bulbs on the sides per plant. I use the 2700k throughout the entire grow. This may not be ideal but it is more cost effective for me.
heyhey cannabis, just curious...whats a "great yield" off those 2 42 watt cfls and 2 23 watters?..how many plants?..how much per plant?..density? quality?pics?

Hey man, sounds like you're really on a learning journey with those plants! How old are they now? Have you thought of getting a cheap (50-70) cfl grow ballast? that might provide the light/lumens your plants will need to really get cranking!

Drooping is usually a sign of either over watering or under watering or it may be shock from transplanting or a combination of the two (over watering) considering you changed its growing medium into h2o and at such a young age. It should recover though, I just finished transplanting my babies as they were becoming root bound and drooped a little the first few hours after transplanting and than perked right back up today.
