My first grow room finished

I started this project about 2 month's ago now and would really love some input. As it stands I only had room for a 2x4 grow tent. It has a single 400w MH fixture and 2 65w cfl bulbs in it. My thinking was I could place the CFL's close to the plants to reduce stretching. Next I build an RDWC system that has 2 18 gallon containers and a single 5 gallon reservoir. The tent has 8 clip on fans for circulation and a single 4" inline fan attached to the carbon filter hanging from the ceiling. Once the plants are out of the veg state I will be placing a 600w HPS fixture in to replace the MH bulb. I'd love some input on my setup and ways in which I could improve. Good luck running hydro ur first time. This site is full of people that dive in head first to hydro and end up having problem after problem but who knows you might be the exception.

Looks like a good set up. I grow in a 2x4 closet and 400 watts of HID is more than enough light. A 600 should work too just be careful about light stress when you switch.

Look great!

filter is pretty big for your tent.

Dont run it till you have smell issues, save it

A tent should be kept in a "negative pressure state"

I use a 6" fan to go straight thru my light, a duct comes from above to the fan then thru hood and out of tent.

I use a separate 4" fan to duct air out of the tent and a passive air entry.

the 4" fan draws from the hottest point in the tent.

I have two 10" fans to move air, one blows right under and across the glass of my hood.

My lighting, I veg under CFLs.

I flower under a 400 HPS with 95 watts of T5 CFL on either side.

I fully expect my first grow to be sub par and a learning experience. That being said I have done tons of research and am hopeful. In reality though I have no idea what to expect. Would you recommend I simply get a 400w HPS for the tent? As of right now I am currently waiting to purchase the fixture. I got the MH lamp off craigslist on the cheap.

400 should fit your tent well.
once you hang your light, turn it on alone in your tent.
It will get Hot, the temp # is your high heat load.
if you have not bought you hood I could make a suggestion.
My 400 is mounted horizontally in my hood, it makes for a Hot Spot below the base.
My hood is small in my opinion.
If I could get another hood it would be larger and for a Vertical bulb with 6" inlets for duct.

once you have your high temp, attach ducting to both side of your hood.
it goes
from outside tent to hood to fan back outside of the tent.
so some 6" flex, 6" inline fan.
(in my photo you see the fan pushing thru hood.)
i now know it's better to pull thru than push air.

Then you need a second fan to create your negative pressure.
Good Luck!

Hey Dogenzengi I am setting up a similar tent (2'x4') an need some advice on my fan/filter set up. Here are my ideas. I am a total newb and could really use some advice!

1) 6" A/C Hood > Ducting > Fan pulling air > Ducting outside of tent > Carbon Filter > Into room
This setup would be the least amount of stuff inside of the tent. I was thinking of mounting the fan on the edge/wall in between the tent and outside to save some room.

2) Carbon Filter > Ducting > 6" A/C Hood > Ducting > Fan pulling air > Ducting to room
This may get crowded in a 2'x4' but I like the idea of having everything in the one space.

Do I need a booster fan bringing air in or is a passive intake sufficient?

Here is my post about my set up: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/776251-grow-closet-advice-needed.html

Hopefully someone can help I am at a loss with the fan cfm, negative pressure, etc.
