My first grow

Hey all, I'm growing for my first time ever. I only had a few bag seeds and keep it very simple. I know most of you won't like it but I used mracale grow. I made a grow box out of a wine cooler and used 4 23wcfl's veg for 6 wks and then 12/12 under 600 hps. no nuts during veg but am using AN big bud now for wks 2-4. I grew 4 plants and lucked out and all 4 are girls! The plants are just past 3 wks in flowering. I'm lookng forward to my next batch and use some better soil and also try my hand at a DWC set-up.

Looks good! I'm surprised you got all females using miracle grow soil as everything I've read has told me miracle grow causes a higher male ratio? Maybe miracle grow isn't that bad after all!

oh, that's just silly. it has more to do with genetics than soil.

and OP, nice job for a first run! you're on your way.

No that's wrong. The seed or clone is already a male or female in the seed and you cant change that, they can hermie with stress or light leaks.

Dwc makes huge plants! You will love it, one or two plants will be fine for that 600. Id have that plant going right now BTW. You can easily pull seven os off one plant with a 600 :):):)

Since i never grew before i simply put the seeds in some MG filled bowl, wetted, placed a 23w cfl on it and a week later, they where growing! Since then I have found this website and have to say THANK YOU to all you guys! I have read hundreds of threads here on Rollitup to educate myself on growing. If you use some common sense and research the methods suggested then you can't go wrong. I've figured out how to make a grow box out of a wine cooler, I made my own multi cfl light fixtures/deflectors out of duct work, made a flowering room in a unheated basement (thats 45 deg everyday) and figured out how to heat and maintain 80F. Everybody has their own "twist" on how to grow and that can be very confusing to newbies, but theres also some very good ideas too.
I'm looking forward to learning more over the next few weeks as i start checking the trichomes. Again, Thank you to everyone for sharing your knowledge to us newbies.
I'm sure I will be asking alot of questions when i start the DWC..

Looks really good! Congrats! There are many roads to Rome, as they say. As long as the plant is healthy and yields well, you're doing something right.

I run DWC under 400Watts and just harvested 6oz off two plants. I know that bumping up to 600 would yield better results, so I'm pretty sure you'll do great when you get there.

Miracle grow works just fine. Plenty of people use MG. It is not IDEAL and you have to understand how it works to use it properly but it can be used and used well. At the same time I still havent used soil that was IDEAL for MJ. Even the soil that advertises for being for MJ still requires adjustments.

Yes, I agree. I figured i wouldn't add any nutes during the veg because MG has so much already in it I didn't want to over do it. That seemed to be the right decision but in a pinch yes MG does work. And yes, Ninjabowler, alot of you have some great expert advise. I recommened that people do the the research BEFORE they decide on a method/tip/technique on threads. Its better to search the web for a few hours and do some "fact checking" than to waste weeks and $$$$$$ just to find out it was a BS idea.

Here is the harvest from my first grow I posted here. I think it turned out ok considering I used MC for soil. Looking forward to my new batch in Foxfarm Ocean..
