My first grow

Here lately I've really been biting at the seams to get started on growing. I started this grow prematurely. By this I mean I started germination on two seeds I found from some goo bud I purchased. I have little expectations for these seeds as they could be bad from multiple unknown variables(methods the grower used to cure etc..).

I wanted to get a hands-on experience with germination. Seeing how I live in a non friendly state I didn't want to use the seeds I recently purchased online in fear of wasting my entire seed investment. My knowledge comes strictly from Ed rosenthal's grower's handbook and various growing forums including a couple of friends on this site.

***By NO MEANS do I believe I know exactly what I'm doing. I appreciate all criticism but please remain polite and provide proper instructions/ideas to correct my mistakes.***

My future setup:

1. It will be 4'W x 4'L x 6'H (96' cubic feet)

2. I will being using a Phresh carbon filter for exhaust rated at 150 CFM(cubic feet per minute) http://www.greners.com/i/fans-ventilation-filters/filters-odor/brand/phresh/phresh-filters.html

3. I will be using a vortex power fan to exhaust the box through the filter. The fan is rated at 175 CFM. http://www.greners.com/i/fans-ventilation-filters/products/brand/vortex/vortex-powerfans.html

4. As far as soil/fertilizer I plan on using Foxfarms and/or other products recommended.

5. Possible LEDs or CFLs(maybe a MH but I prefer to avoid it) to supplement UVB as the area51 lights do not supply it.

6. Miscellaneous: thermometers(soil & environment), humidity gauge, 5 gallon buckets, smaller intake fan(unless you think the exhaust will pull enough air in), chain/yo yo's (for hanging lights/ductwork/carbon filter), 1 stationary rotating fan, excess water tray, light timer, water test kit, soil test kit, & an actual water ph tester like http://phmeterstore.com/index.php/component/virtuemart/ph-orp-meters/waterproof-ph-testers-with-replaceable-electrode-detail?Itemid=0

7. I will be purchasing 2 190 area51 lights on the 21st of February. Until then I planned on using cfl and possible t5s(I will also buy light reflectors to get close to the 100,000 lumen). I understand I should be patient and not go without my setup entirely ready. This is why I used seeds from bud I purchased. http://a51led.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181

8. I'm not concerned with a co2 tank at this time because I have read with my crop count goal the passive intake and opening of the cabinet will provide enough co2.

9. Seed bank seeds: recently I spent $200 on femininized seeds from http://www.worldwide-marijuana-seeds.com/
Order details
1x2 Free Feminized Seeds - Free£0.00
1xBlack Diesel - Feminized£9.85
1xWhite Widow XL - Feminized x10£51.60
1xAlakazam - Feminized x5£21.80
1xAfgani Dream Auto - Feminized£7.45
1x818 Headband aka Sour OG - Feminized£16.10

(The two free seeds do have names but I'm not at home to document them, they are a B grade bud. One of the seeds is an automatic)

☆like mentioned earlier I plan on using these seeds when my entire setup is running(I will be financially ready to build my setup on the 21st) and hopefully I'll have more of an understanding as well as kinks some of you and myself point out. I'm still pretty intimidated buying seeds so I want to wait to dig into those until I can expect more of a guaranteed yield. Once I get to that level I will probably invest in driving to Denver to buy seeds physically.

-My plan: (assuming I do successfully germinate)

Document everything in a notebook, then to here: such as equipment I realize I need, equipment I use, steps I take(or should have taken), environment(water ph, soil levels, temperature, humidity, fertilizer levels), feeding schedule, feeding amounts, fertilizer(s) used, any adjustments made(including the amounts & reasons why they were needed), light schedule, air movement(which won't be the best compared to the setup I will be building on the 21st), and finally any questions I come across.

1. Have the soil PH around 6.8, the humidity between 40%-60%, the temperature between 68°-80°, and the water PH between 6-7.

2. Hopefully these seeds germinate within 1-10 days, if not I will look at using one or both of the free seeds I received.

3. Once I have a successful germination I will begin the veg stage with 3 2700k & 1 6500k CFLs until I receive my LEDs. Possibly t5/8 if needed. The CFLs will be placed 6" above the canopy. (Understand if there is a serious delay in my LED I will add more CFLs)

4. Three days after germination I will transplant the sprouts into their soil packed 32oz container which it will remain in for 10-25 days. once i notice firm, turgid leaves i will know the plant is ready to begin the vegetative stage.

5. I will keep them in the veg stage(18 hours of fully powered light on per day) until 2/3 of floor space is covered by canopy, "x" amount of time has passed, or I'm dealing with height limitations.

6. During the veg stage I plan to use a fertilizer with NPK close to 3-1-2, 4-2-3, or 5-3-3.(always open for suggestions) I plan on adding fertilizer once every three feedings(more or less as needed).

7. I will transplant the crops into a 1 or 3 gallon pot after it has been in it's current 32oz for 20 days.

8. I hope to have learned successful pruning/?scrog? techniques.

9. I should have my lighting situation taken care of by this step but I plan to begin the flowering stage by switching to a 12 hours on 12 hours off light cycle. I will also look to have the light source near 680 nanometers. I will also transplant them into 5 gallon buckets. The duration they will remain in those will vary.

10. I plan to switch fertilizer specific for blooming.(Open for suggestions) I will supplement their food with this once every three feedings(more or less as needed).

11. Once they begin their flowering stage I will check multiple times daily for sex and dipose of any male plants. I understand I could use clones from the vegetative stage to know sooner and I might pursue that option. I'm however intimidated by clones and don't want to risk killing the mother by cutting the clone wrong.

12. They will remain on the schedule above unless something is needed, such as a nute deficiency.

13. I will perform a flush two weeks before my estimated harvest and feed only water as needed.

14. The buds will be harvested when the trichomes turn from clear to either amber or a cloudy white. Buds will be harvested individually to ensure each bud has ripened.

Eventually I would like to have a two/three chamber setup that grows clones, crops vegging, and crops flowering.

Thank you

Right on.. like I mentioned I'm doing this more for myself as a learning experience. I don't need criticism on how much I document. .

Day 1, February 6th.

▪ started two peat pellets via jiffy tomato greenhouse and tap water.

▪ tested water ph at 6.7

▪ placed seeds into pellets at 6:45 pm

▪ humidity is at 56% with a high/low of 59%/53%

▪ environment temp is at 77° with a high/low of 77°/70°

▪ tested my soil ph at 6.0

Since this isn't my ideal grow I went with mirale-gro potting mix. I know most look down on MG however I didn't want to drive two hours to pick up the foxfarms I'll be using for my ideal grow.

☆things still needed

▪ digital water ph tester

▪ digital soil ph/nute tester

▪ 3 2700k and 1 6500k CFLS

▪ CFL reflectors

I'm skipping two days of journal on here. All I did was check humidity etc..

☆ I did start 3 other seeds on the 8th.

February 9

▪ Checked both containers and my first container with both goo seeds have tap roots showing. One is very minimal but the other has fully emerged.

▪ I planted the emerged seed in a MG potting solution and dampened the soil.

▪ I also placed a t8 above the pot. Roughly 3" above.

▪ I kept the other seed in my greenhouse container. Once it's tap root is fully out I will plant it as well.

I don't plan on growing every seed at once. 3/5 seeds germinating are seeds from bud I bought to smoke. The other two are from what I ordered.

Came home from work and checked the seeds. My #2 seed of goo had it's tap root exposed a noticeable amount. I decided to go ahead and plant it into the mix.

I checked my 3 seeds I started on the 8th. The white widow and blimburn are showing taps but they're not at the desired length. The 3rd goo seed isn't showing any tap yet.

Came home today to see the 3rd goo seed had finally exposed her tap.. it was reasonable length so I went ahead and planted her. The blimburn showed an amazingly long tap out of no where!! I went ahead and planted her as well.

3 goo seeds planted
1 white widow planted
1 blimburn planted

Temp at 73°
Humidity at 42%

Cross your fingers as will I!
