Just got my first HID, an 400w HPS and after setuping up my grow room with mylar and ventilation (2 fans drawig air in and hour through dryer ducts), I let the baby run. Checked on it 30 mins later and the temp was just peaking at 85 degrees. Is this too high and how else could I get the temp lowered?

Thanks.

85 is fine, thats what mine runs at during warmer weather. 75 right now. Using an AC or blowing some air from the street will lower your temperatures. Also opening closet doors if you have any...

I would advise while you are fine tune'ing your room, you experiment with bag seed. Even today at 3 months after I started I am still working on both rooms. I have bag seed going everywhere :)

My first practice plant is nearing completion and she has been to hell in back with temps, nutes, clones, and 100 other bad variables.

Good advice chosen. Also another alternative, is to start growing a couple bagseeds, I would say about 4-5. And then 3 weeks later plant some good seeds. This is good, because you wont have to wait so long before you get the good bud, but you have some plants that are a bit ahead of it, so you can learn from your mistakes, and make sure the good plants have a good life.

Goodluck mate, 85 is fine, but 80 would be better. <3

Haha funny because I actually have 4 bagseed plants at 2 weeks thriving under flourescents, and have 4 blueberrys sprouted. So I guess if something goes wrong with bagseed, I will know 2 weeks ahead of time to alter the environment for my blueberry.

Would a second ventilation fan used for exhaust help? I'm putting far too many 6" holes in my wall though lol

Give us something visual with the dimensions and your layout inside the area. Pushing ALOT of air is not always the answer. You will know when its right and this might sound crazy. I can tell by the hum of the fans they are all working together. As the speed is increased on the exhaust for example you can hear the fans speed up on the intake.

Before you start cutting any more holes I would post some drawings of sorts. I think you are going to need at least an 8" intake but what do I know.

No need for a camera here get MS paint going or Adobe photochop and sketch us something.
