My freezer setup (small grow)

Hi everyone, i wanted to post some pics of my first ever grow and get some feedback.

i'm growing in a small freezer, with a lid on the top. The freezer is roughly 24"x 36", and about 36" deep, with aluminum sides. i'm using 3, 42 watt cfls, with a combined total of 8550 lumens.

i started with only 4 plants, however, on the second day after i planted the seedlings, i closed the lid of the freezer, not thinking it would get that hot. i was very wrong--about 4 hours later, i checked and it was smokin hot. i set up a fan outside of the freezer (until i can get a small on that fits inside) and kept the lid cracked. i decided to germinate 2 more seeds just in case the first four were killed by the heat, and planted those today. So i have in total 6 plants, although two are brand new.

i am worried that i killed the first four, but i'm hoping i didn't. All of these are from bagseed, incidentally, which germinated very quickly. i'd appreciate any comments and suggestions! Thanks!

i found some lights at Home Depot called "AgroLight", and they are made for growing plants. i hesitated to buy them, though, because i didn't know much about them. Is this what you mean?

These agro and gro lites do not have the proper spectrum for weed. use hid's if you can afford one, or cfl's. figure about 50-75w per plant. or 2000 lumens per square foot. get a fan (both to strengthen the plant stems, and you can put your light much closer if there is a fan blowing either on it or the plants!)

You will need to add a ventilation system that brings in outside air at some point.

if it is, what are you gonna' do about the weed odor later.
and you DO realize that your babies will prob/ outgrow that box, unless you learn about:

topping will increase your yield 2 to 3 times without too much upward growth. It makes your plants bushier instead of taller, perfect for small ofr confined areas.

Maybe you might want to grow the plants outside the freezer for the first three weeks. I can't imagine there is too much humidty in that thing. Seedlings need the humidity. Add some ventilation and you should do well. Your going to top these babies right?

i'm only growing these until they are too big for the freezer, then i have a designated room in my attic where i have plenty of room. i'm in the process of setting it all up now, but i wanted to go ahead and start them in the freezer. When i transplant them to their 3-gallon planters, i will move them to the big room.

No, there is not really any humidity at all in the freezer, do i need to change this? If so, what would be the best way to add humidity? i can put a bowl of boiling water in there, will that work? i was wondering if i should have covered the tops of the cups with saran wrap...:/

That was exactly the reason why i chose it, the sides diffuse the light in a really nice way, so there is never one single hot spot that could harm them.

i just can't wait for them to sprout! i'm worried i may have cooked them, so each day with no sign of a sprout worries me more and more.

And btw, it's not a stealth grow. My husband and i rent our house, but the landlord is not an issue. The only question i have about smell is, how bad will it be with 3 or 4 plants, and what is the best method of dealing with it?

i covered the tops with saran wrap and repositioned the cups and lights for the best light exposure. Maybe i'll see something by this weekend!

Yeah, i saw that thread--extremely helpful! i'm not mechanically inclined, but i think even *i* can make one of those.

i'm leaving my babies alone for the night now, and hopefully this weekend i'll see something positive. Thanks to everyone, i'll keep updating as it warrants.

if they are seedlings then NO plastic! I can'ts tell in the pics, but if they are seeds, still why not do the paper towel germination method? it's fast (2-3 days) get a fan in there how close are your lights?

clear plastic cups are a no-no roots hate light. yeah, they'll grow but not well, or fast put them into the 16 oz, dark )red,blue) plastic cups don't forget drainage holes in bottoms

room temp water works fine. if you use hot water you again run the risk of increasing the temp inside to dangerous levels for your babies
