my grow box, made pretty cheap less than $200

sterilite cupboard, $40 from walmart
150w hps sun system, $100 from hydro store
7in fan, $10 from lowe
air bubbler (front), $10 from walmart
30-45gph water pump (back) with tubing, $10 plus $3 from lowe
empty bucket i found around the house, it can hold 1.5gal

the cupboard has adjustable shelves. thats pretty nice.

the grow light won't be inside the cupboard, i'm going to cut an opening in the cupboard for light to enter. given that hot air rises from the grow light and the fan will help circulate air inside, heat should not be a problem right?

i might cut an intake somewhere near the bottom, maybe even embed the 7in fan into the opening.

Dose the hood have a glass insert?

no glass... i just finished cutting the the hole for the light to go into the cupboard and making my hydro pot... post pics soon

Every bit of that heat is going into that box. If you can't keep the heat out with glass, you could mount in and out fans on oppisite sides and draw heat out that way.
You are basicly turning that box into an easy bake oven.

Not too bad at all. Is this going to be for Veg or Flower? It doesn't appear that you can do both inside the unit. Also, where will you do your clones for future growing?

Neither, its plastic homie. I have the same one, followed Ditty's guide on how to make one for 57 bucks. I think a 150W might be a little much but if you through some PC fans or something you might be able to pull it off. . I'm using 4 100W (equivalent) CFL's in mine. I painted the inside white and just spray painted the outside tonight..looks bad ass!! With 4 CFLs and keeping the door closed and having no intake\outtake fans my temps stay at a constant 79F.

surprising, if i found out that it works pretty good... since the ballast isn't releasing all the heat inside the grow box

if i just did a test run for an hour with the shelf in, it stayed at 90F.i noticed that the plastic felt warm.

my 2nd test, i took the shelf out, and put some glass in between the light and box. the temperature of the bottom of the box was 70F, and 85F at the top (inches from the bulb). my grow light was hella hot, most like from the heat being trapped because of the glass.

since temp won't be that big of an issue at least inside the box, i'll prolly just add a small pc intake fan.

3rd test, i got a fan blow inside the box (not intake). no glass screening the bulb, but i got a small piece between the metal and plastic. temperature inches from bulb was 85F and my grow light wasn't heating up like crazy anymore. i think i have found my set up =D

my grow box is very stealthy... only 1 problem, it glows lol
i'll cover the inside with mylar latr, and prolly throw put more stuff around it.

this is my first grow, so im going to do veg and flower for the first run, then just flower from then on. i'll build another one for clones and veg later. im starting wit nl, easy for nubs. ona odor block will do the job right?

nice buddy. i threw out a little half size wardrobe like that although it also had two drawers and looks a little wider than yours when i moved house 6 months ago and it still pisses me off when i think about it, it was perfect for cloning, seedlings and early vegging. and the drawers held all my odds and shit like nutes and ph metre etc.

Awesome idea with putting the ballast on top of the cabinet.

Looks like you're trying to stealth grow... thought about smell during flower?

something which i do after making alterations is complete a full 18/6 cycle to record max and min levels.
1 hour running is no where near enough testing time.
if you test properly now it means you wont have to worry later about high temps.

Beautiful pup ya got there I need a Lighter. Anyway, is there a thread that shows a start to finish easy Sterilite grow box finish.
I can get a box like that, that is 36.6" tall for $48 at Kmart (yes joke now), anyway, I was gonna take it during assembly cut a hole in the back with a jig saw or soldering iron and rig up a 120MM fan blowing in and out down the middle of the back piece, and then Aluminum tape the whole inside to lightproof, and then get black white POLY from ebay and glue that in for the interior (white out), and then get a UFO LED, and since I do autos get a couple of 1 gallon pots and I have the rest.....sound about right, and does the forum need a DYI project like this documented?
