My Growroom is too small for DWC. In a bind.

Hi guys,

So my finished specs are about 1 sq. meter using a 400W bulb.

My first attempt growing was with DWC with great results although I never let them grow past a few weeks. I still have the complete DWC setup from a few years ago and feel much more comfortable using it over other methods. The problem I'm realizing is even with a low profile plastic tote, the plants would already be pretty close to the light.
The light is only 3' max from the ground and I was always planning on doing a scrog, but I think for a 400W MH bulb its not enough.

One solution is if I did an ebb-flow with a tray to take full advantage of the 3' grow space, but then the reservoir would have to be on the same level as the tray. This wouldn't be fail-safe and would be somewhat difficult to setup and manage than the normal gravity drain ebb flow table. Also, I've already have had cooling issues.

So what I think is that I should either get a fluorescent fixture or best, but much less incognito is move the lamp to a grow tent that's 6' tall. Then later I could get fluorescents for the DIY grow room.

I really want to save my current grow room without having to spend anymore money with a DWC, but most totes are 12-19" tall and just too close to the lamp. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Will your ballast work also with a HPS? If so, they do tend to put out more light. Meanwhile, I'd go up to a 600 watt, maybe use the 400 in trade? If money is ok, keep it for a backup or future expansion.

If DWC is what you're good at, then do that.

Never tried DWC or a tent, but I figure if you like DWC, then that's what perhaps you should think about first.

I will assume that the magnetic ballast he has is only for MH and only for 400w as well, Magnetic ballasts are specific. So saying that use the MH for vegging and go buy a conversion bulb MH to HPS for flower. Since you have a setup like that maybe just stick with dirt grows and LST or Mainline the plants to control the height.

P.S I love your setup nice neat and clean.
