My light system off craigslist, any good?

Got the whole thing for $40, not sure if its any good, came with an HPS and metal halide bulb but apparently I cant use both with the ballast?
Looks like it was a street lamp that the blub was re wired to a separate hood.
Not sure if this is any good, the only marking is a sticker on the inside of the ballast box (big and heavy box, 40 lbs or so)
heres what it reads:
"cooper lighting
Line volts: 120/208/240/277
lamp style s-51
lamp watts 400
Ballast type CWA
amps: 4.3/2.48/2.15/1.86
suitable for wet conditions"
whats the verdict?
Should I trust someones wiring?
Probably new bulbs is a good idea, I dont know the run time.
any input appreciated!

that is not a dual ballast,that is a dual stage bulb made for that ballast.Only way u can use a ballast with 2 different bulbs is digital ballast.That lamp looks good for flowering,but since u have both hps and mh together it should work,keep the lense clean.
 
Looks like you got yourself a nice deal, 400w hps rewired away from ballast, get a new bulb and maybe new reflector and your set. Just make sure the connections are good and secure, if its working then they probably did it right, its nothing major, just extending wires really.

So that means both bulbs will be OK?
Probably go with HPS, seems like the better choice for flowering, currently veg under cfl's.

keep what lense clean?
 
the lens is the piece of glass on the light. any dirt or spots on it reduce light transmission.
craigslist is the shit. i buy most of my equipment used off of it.
there is a guy up the road who is selling all his equipment from a commercial grow.
im talking like 15 1000w digital lights, 6000 feet of trellis, a 500lb a day ice maker with a 20gal ice-o-later.
crazy shit
 
The bulb is not in that box anymore so that lense is negligible.
Ill probably remove it so theres more ventilation for the ballast.
 
no there are certain bulbs that are better than others try a hrotilux it has 56,000 lumen's vs home depots model's witch are commenly around 32-37'000 lumens
