If you do not have drain holes near the base of the plastic buckets you will have muddy water sitting at the bottom of the pot eventually causing issues. Drain holes should be much larger at the base similar to a 3 or 5 gallon pot.

to each their own i have not watered to runoff 1 time at all and yes i lift and check the buckets daily the holes in the bottom are dime sized maybe next run i may switch to fabric pots

I have the exact same light I need a clip fan on it facing the bulb to keep surface temperature down I usually hang about 18in but they do get closer now that the fan keeps it cooler

clip fan great idea thanks i just fired it up an hour ago going to check the temp shortly something like a computer fan i will investigate that now

skip computer fans, check out the 6" or 8" clip fans. Hurricane is one brand people use, I like Air King. For oscillating there are some good commercial units that last way longer than the cheapo ones. Most oscillating fans die quickly.

found a perfect fan at goodwill 3 bucks i swear to god it is perfect and like new its a 6 inch 3 speed non oscillating all my oscillating are old school the walmart shit is all junk now adays

With an air cooled hood mine sometimes are close to touching the glass. I try for 8 - 10 inches. With an open bulb you won't be able to get the light that close. I'd position a fan to blow straight across between the top of the plants and the light. Start as close as you can, monitor closely, and adjust the light as needed.

I can burn a 600w + 10% at 12/14" if you want close or height is a problem get a parabolic, in fact just get a parabolic regardless there miles better than any horizontal fixture.
These are the farthest plants from my 660w in a 5x5.
Fwiw I've double ended but it's redundant it cant live with a parabolic reflector.

You have to water to runoff. I thought I could get away with it. Now I'm paying the price. Salt build up and lockout. Now I have to flush and get back up to speed.
Don't avoid runoff.

I agree , it may seem easy to get away with but Imagine if you always drank salt water you'd get that itch for fresh water eventually..looks great man I use plastic dresser drawers to catch run off..there's a long winded thread somewhere lol...don't go this far and nuke em at the end! happy growing

You won't regret it!
If you put your hand to the end of your bulb you'll get a better idea of the huge difference, a parabolic throws the heat out like a doughnut as opposed to directly into your/my canopy like with horizontal fixtures.
