Hey everyone I recently finished building my first DWC ScrOG Cabinet I have posted it on other sites but I thought I'd post on here aswell to hopefully get more feedback and help with the whole process as I am a complete newbie to hydroponics. I will post a grow diary with where I am up to on here aswell I have some GHS: Super Lemon Haze seedlings on the go, from what I have read they have both sativa and a sativa/indica hybrid phenotypes I'm not too sure how the sativa phenotype will go in this setup
Well after months of planning and hard work not to mention shitloads of cash Ive finally built my own DWC cabinet system!!
Its basically just two ordinary looking cabinets which I built out of melamine coated moisture resistant particleboard.
The larger cabinet on the left: L 1200mm x W 632mm x H 2032mm is the main growing cabinet. The grow space: W 600mm x L 1168mm x H 1800mm houses a DWC system with a ScrOG screen, 400W HPS Lighting with a Philips Son-T Agro lamp.
It has a 120mm 80cfm exhaust fan which sucks air from the two 80mm passive intake holes (covered by louvered vents) in the bottom left side. The fan blows air through a PVC elbow pipe inserted into the fan hole to prevent light from entering the grow space. I have two circulating 15cm desk fans which will hopefully perform 4 functions:
1. Suck fresh cool air through the passive intake behind it.
2. Strengthen the stems of the plants.
3. Aerate the canopy.
4. Help cool the reservoir and more importantly the lamp!
The main reservoir is connected to the external reservoir on the right with 25mm threaded poly pipe to remotely check levels, perform top-ups, mix nutrients and testing. It also is connected to the 750Lph 1.2M head height submersible circulation pump in the external reservoir. The pump is on a timer which pumps for 15mins every 15mins, Im hoping this will keep the nutrients in each reservoir uniform for testing and topping off. I will drop a 300W water heater in the external reservoir in winter which will hopefully keep the entire nutrient at the right temp.
The DWC reservoir is aerated by an Aqua One 9500 dual output air pump and has two 140mm net pots. When the nutrient is at the right level in the reservoir it holds around 25L which means the plants actually have 50L including the external reservoir. Ive also put a drain tap on it so I can flush the system through from the external reservoir.
The ballast, timers and wiring all sits in the top compartment. The ballast has its own 59cfm exhaust fan behind it which sucks air from the cord hole/passive intake on the far side. The DWC reservoir has a stick on type thermometer to monitor nutrient temps. I also have a digital thermometer/hygrometer on top of the res to monitor temps and RH in and out.
The smaller cabinet: L 832mm x W 600mm x H 1032mm houses the external top-off reservoir down the bottom.
And a propagation/cloning compartment up the top.
The propagation/cloning compartment has a 2 foot double fluoro batten with two Philips 18W Cool Daylight tubes, a heat pad and propagation dome.
Im hoping to slide out the top shelf and use this smaller DWC reservoir for rooting and sexing.
And maybe this lid for keeping a mum?
...Or this Luwasa hydro-culture pot may be even easier?
But I cant find any information on Hydroponic bonsai mums! There seems to be a lot of good info out there for soil but nothing on DWC and definitely nothing on hydro-culture, which I think might be the way to go just using a weak solution?
Ok so surely now the hard work is done? I am a complete newbie to hydroponics and not really too sure where to go from here! Im thinking of using GH Flora micro and bloom (Lucas Formula) but that is pretty much as far as Ive got.
Im a bit worried about not having enough room between the fluoro and the second shelf! and i may need to add a fan to the smaller cabinet as it only has a vent at the top and a cord hole in the middle.
I also need to figure out some sort of schedule for this like how often I should change nutrients and how the fuck do I use all these additives?
Any help would be awesome. And thanks to everyone that has posted on OG and CN over the years for inspiring me to give this a try.
