My seedlings long stems

Hi guys,

THis is my first post on RUI. I am on some other sites and always wanted to check this one out. So HIGH to everyone!

Ok so I have a bunch of beans that just sprouted and some of them are growing very tall long stems and some are even bending over. What can I do to keep them shorter and compact? The light is about 6 inches above them and don't have much flexibility to move it. Temps are 70-80 with RH of around 50.

Thanks in advance guys!

What kind of lights u using? If cfls keep the lights 2-4 inches away :). Gl.... I just started 5 beans myself and all are about a inch outta soil as of this morning:)

What Dookz said - all of it. Use a spiral CFL and keep it right on top of them. I mean right on top. 1 or 2 inches away max.

if you can't lower the light...raise the pots closer to the light. also bury the stems all the way up to the cotyledon leaves and it will effectively shorten them and help keep them upright. plus as an added bonus, the buried stem will produce more roots.. more roots=bigger plant and more buds

this is my seedling / veg room setup

i am useing 4 23w cfl daylight bulbs with 1 mini 132 purple uvb bulb .
i planted all 4 of the silver skunk x rockstar kush seeds 48hrs ago and all are sprouting
and like he said put dirt up to starting leavs and ull get a bigger root mass ... thats what i intend on doing too considering i only fill my solo cups 3 quarters full of soil then i add dirt once plant has stretched its way outta the cup !

WOW I didn't expect that many responses by the time I checked back.

Thanks guys. I just received my designated growers license and am striving to produce the best possible meds for my patients and heard this was a good place to learn. Lots of helpful advice already.

I will be posting some pictures of them soon when I start a journal.
