So here's how my girls were this morning

Anna

Bella

Bella dropped the shell casing during her 6hours of darkness, but the cotyledon that the shell was stuck to is all curled up. Idk if that's a problem or not.

Thank you mewk, I wouldn't say genius though.

Thank you petflora, I've been thinking about getting some LEDs for my cabinet I'm building. Any suggestions on which ones (links?)?

She's fine, she'll uncurl over then next couple of day. Those leaves will eventually turn yellow, curl and die.
Keep up the great work!

Depends on how you will hang them. CREE has 9.5w bulbs (2 in the center on the splitter) BUT their diodes are on the equator- very little light at the bottom. Good for side lighting. The 2 on the outside are 17w Philips and 22w Utilitech are RP (remote phosphor)

Basically you want high lumens (>800) and > 10w. Since you already have CFLs, mix one cfl day light/bright white to 4-5 WW (warm white)

If I had to do a micro stealth grow, I would build something much like you've got going. I'm not a big fan of a shitload of bulbs, and if you go that way, you'd be better off with less wattage and then strategically placing the bulbs for maximum coverage. CFL's are hot....a lot of CFL's are cookers. If room would allow, I would suggest getting a 2' four bulb T5 HO fixture. Lots of light, almost no heat.

And they work great:

Yeah....that's a good price, but you have to buy bulbs...which isn't a bad thing if you want to customize you light spectrum. I would try to find a local hydro shop for the bulbs as the shipping cost for florescent bulbs is high due to being frail.

This is the one I got from Home Depot online. Shipping is free, and you get four veg bulbs.

It takes about 5 days to get it after ordering.

Keeping an eye open on Craigslist you may find a good deal on a used light.

Day 2 (counting from when they broke thru the soil)

So this morning Bella was stretching like crazy. Good thing I left some space in the cup where I could add some soil. Added some soil, lowered the lights and threw in two more cfls. A little worried on the temps today since I won't be around to check for 12 hrs (work). Both looking good with leaves coming in.

Anna is the top, Bella on the bottom

Petflora, are these what your talking about? If so how many do you think I'll need?

And lilroach, is this what your talking about?

Yes, those are the bulbs. How many watts you want depends on how much $$$$ you want to throw at the grow. What I don't like about the CREEs is the diodes are at the midpoint circumference- meaning they have to be positioned horizontally + you need a reflector.

Globes in general do not provide ideal coverage. I am moving toward tubes for the greater canopy coverage and increased height. 23w over 4ft will provide an even light, whereas with any globe the light is concentrated in the area closest to the globe. They can also be used as side lighting

If you're looking for T-5's, Wal-Mart sells 24" strip lights for 10$ a piece by me. They aren't HO, but I was going to buy HO bulbs from 1000 bulbs.com and just put them in there. I don't care that they are lights of America brand, for $10 I bought 2 and I'll see how they do. They are already wired and you can link them up.

Day 3

Not much different then yesterday except I think I may water them tonight. They're looking good, no stretch this morning since I moved down the lights and added a couple bulbs. The temps with the extra bulbs got up to 85f right before lights out. I've made some progress on my cabinet. I get my nutes today along with a digital ph meter.

Anna

Bella

Bella has a root starting to come out a drainage hole in the bottom of the inside cup. Should I worry?

Emannn,
My roots are just starting to show out of my pots, I'm almost ready to transplant, do you think it would ok to add a couple of inches of soil to make the roots safe? Should I add anything before I put the old soil in on the new?

Hey Ogonzo, i would transplant them now, no point in messing about trying to add an inch of soil. i personally wouldnt add anything when u transpalnt them, just let ur mj settle in to thier new homes b4 adding nutes, i would water after transplanting. when i was having a few problems with my grow i over reacted a little and when i transplanted her i gently shook all the old soil off the roots and then laid the roots into her new home, what i`m trying to say is, we can be quite brutal and the mj will recover well. hope this helps....good luck and happy growing.......:-)

Day 5

So... yesterday I almost killed Anna, I accidentally knocked over her cup and she dropped about 2-3 ft. Of course when she hit the ground everything came out the cup. I delicately picked her up and reported her as good as I could. It's been almost 20 hours and she's looking ok. Hopefully she's a strong one and makes it. I also added some soil under Bella to raise her roots out of the drain hole. They seem to be going through the water quicker now. I added some water with a very little bit of Buddha Grow... Maybe 1/8 strength. They drank it all up already! Ill check tonight when lights are back up to see how thirsty they are.
I feel so bad for dropping her :(

Well here's today's pics

Anna

Anna again

I also took off the carbon filter for now. I don't know how long on average they go before they start stinking. Ill have to catch it quick seeing as they vent outside. Also, I'm making good progress on my cab, ill post all they pics when it's completed.
