Well, leaves are still dropping near the bottom, I'm not overwatering as I tested them a few days ago by not wartering for a longer period of time and by the evening all leaves had drooped... after watering, the upper leaves picked up... I'm thinking it may be a light issue as there are a lot of younger leaves in shade as you can see from the following pics.

The first three pics are of both plants... the larger and the smaller one that was germinated a week or two later. The 2 pics that follow them are of the younger leaves underneath (I have lifted the larger leaves to show the ones that are in shade).

Any advice helpful...

The larger plant is 22 days since start of germination...

Read previous message first...

these are the leaves underneath (have lifted larger leaves so you can see the new baby leaves underneath which are in shade for the most part)

hi all. these new pics are of

(a) my larger plant (in the foreground) which stands now 8 inches tall and is nice and compact in my opinion. There are plenty of new shoots underneath all the larger leaves which i'm hoping will help develop a greater yield. I started germinating this plant on 25th November so its now just over 4 weeks since and in my opinion not looking too bad for a UK grow with very cheap light setup.

(b and (c)) smaller one was planted on the 4th of December so 23 days old. I'd thought I'd post this smaller one because it's first leaves are absolutely ma-husive!

Appreciate your thoughts, ta!

darn right. I have 2! lol

this is an initial test grow - i don't smoke every day so to just have a little will be great.

I will hope you get 2 females. i grew 4 and got 4 females. hopefully i can channel my luck into your ladies! give them female names and call the ladies and hope for the best!

I'm crossing everything that i have two ladies though thanks for your channeling!

is it just a rumour that your more likely to have females if the ph levels are kept between 6.5 and 7 and that the plants can turn male if 7+?

They are both females in my mind and i remain optimistic about it until i see otherwise!

Cheers mate!

Sounds good!

Thanks for the compliments. She's (optimism rules) now standing just under a foot high and yeah, thank god, past the days of killing them! Was always gonna be an experimental grow though as it's my first. I have another plant growing (pic attached) in the same room which was started 2 weeks after which is half the height of the one you just commented on. I wanted to wait until the little one was about 12" high before flowering so I could flower them both together as I only have the one grow room at the moment as it's only for personal usage.

Height wise, I probably have another 6 to 8" to play with but i was thinking of bending them over slightly and continuing to rotate them so that the light hits as much of the plant as possible. I know we're supposed to start flowering at 2/3 of what we want the final height to be but my mistake was adding another plant 2 weeks after. Of course, this was because of early deaths in my 1st seedlings.

That aside, this rotation method has worked really well for me so far so I'm thinking I should grow vegetation for another couple of weeks and then start to flower, bending them over when I run out of height.

Best of luck with your Widow! I'm sure it'll be a nice smoke!

Your thoughts please, oh here's both of them (up the right way!)

Hi Shiva
I've been watching your grow diary for a little while - very interesting as i'm about to start my first grow (I have a 400w HPS, 15 sensi skunk seeds, and Hesi nutrients). Your ladies are gorgeous, congrats!
About determining sexes (not to spoil the fun of waiting, but...), one way to do it is to take a clone from each plant, get it to root, then force them to flower in a seperate light regime (to do it in the same place, just cover them in somehting opaque for 12 hrs/ 24) - because they are genetically identical to their parent, they'll show you the parent sex without you having to stress mummy (/daddy) unduly.
Have you been growing under fluorescent light all this time? I'm thinking of incubating the seedlings on a windowsill then transplanting when about 5in high into the large pots and put em in the main grow area, what do you reckon?
Cheers

Very nice Shiva, very nice....

Although I have some bad news....

That plant is going to get HUGE! 8" is not enough by FAR to be able to finish the grow...

But there is good news....There are things you can do besides looking for a new home for your babies and that rotating idea you had which would just be a pain in the ass....

I suggest topping the Biggun....This will not only shorten it and let the little one have time to catch up, it will also allow for the nodes to grow bigger and fuller...

It looks like it has a lot of levels so chop the top 1/3 of the plant just above the next set of leaves leaving the leaves and their nodes...

Hope this helps buddy
Good Luck
Peace

You may as well try using the apex that you remove as a clone, cos if it takes root and you can re-veg it, you'll have an instant plant!

Well I'm flattered by all your nice comments as I'm a newbie (can't you tell) In my naivety, I never imagined it was gonna be a huge plant. I'm only growing under a 200W envirolite. Is it really gonna get that big?

I mean, I haven't started to flower it yet but I can see little white hairs on the larger plant already. Is this normal, for a plant to show signs of sex without flowering?

If I top the big plant, then I'm gonna need advice. Just cut it? That easy? And replant it in soil? Please help, I don't wanna destroy her, she's beautiful!

But if I do top it, and get another instant plant, then your quite right, maybe I could flower all three instantly?

Please help you guys! Some great ideas but I want to do it properly.

PS. PERSONAL RESPONSE TO ILOVEYOUMARYJANE.
I guess it depends where your located. I'd never get mine to grow to 5" on a windowsill in this country as it's just way too cold. I've not tried incubation but a hunch says it would work. I would do a test with some trill if I were you. If you can get trill to grow then I reckon you'll be fine.

PPS. PERSONAL RESPONSE TO TEK
Is it as simple as a straight snip. Looking at it are you saying I should snip it as shown in photo below? and then plant it in soil to see if it roots?

I just now read your entire grow journal and your plants look great! I have yet to start my first grow but will hopefully do so very soon. Anyways good luck with your ladies... I'll be checking this for updates! Also where did you get the envirolite you used?

Got it from a company called basement lighting - it came with an entire ballast and reflector. I'm in the UK and growing in a cold garage and this light was perfect for my small grow room. I'm gonna purchase a red spectrum bulb for flowering but you can choose to purchase the ballast with a blue spectrum bulb for starting vegetation.

It was Basement Lighting Hydroponics and Grow Lights UK

go to the eco and envirolites section and it's the 'MG Envirolite 200w and GrowStar Reflector' for £79.95

Hope you enjoyed my journal!

You may want to do what I did and send them cash registered post. Just safer that way.
