my wifes cloning technique...

Sounds like to much work, I prefer to cut, dip in water, dip in root hormone then stick it in a rockwool cube. About a week later roots are growing like mad.

I was talking to a old outdoor guy on here. He said that he would veg plants about four feet tall. then dig a ditch and lay it down in the ditch and scarr it up and burry the stem. Roots would sprout under each scarred cola.

sounds like a cool method, id definitely try it. i dont get how people think this sounds like extra work, you put soil in seran wrap, bend a stem, and wrap it up. you dont need to water the future clones or anything....no humidity hood, and how is rockwool more easy to come by than soil lol. i guess if ur growin hydro then ya..but this seems like the simplest method ive ever seen... the plant does all the work for ya!

I have done this but only on tree branches for which it was intended..... it's a bit of overkill for soft bodies plants but if you want to here's how...

Pick a strong side branch and about an inch or so from the main trunk.... do not cut it off..... merely roughen about an inch all the way around with either an emory board or fine sandpaper.... like sloughing off old skin with a loofa  kk? Now sprinkile a little water on the wound and then sprinkle a bit of rooting hormone. Dirt can be used but I prefer sphagnum moss. Moisten the moss and wrap the wound with it and then wrap cover newspaper and again with saran wrap. It must be kept DARK,
It takes about three weeks but when you unwrap the paper there will be a web of new roots..... cut it by the main stem and plant normally....

Again, I've only done this with trees and shrubs. It works but yes it may be the long way around the barn......

hmmm...well since I am such a clone killer...if the water cup technique doesnt work I will try it...

This is actually a good technique for some medical growers that have a limit on the number of plants, you can root the cutting directly on the plant, therefore not counting as a separate plant until its time to stick it in the soil and veg it.

ya, i was gonna second that notion... unfortuneately it will be in late flower at that point... but as long as its fully rooted and you cut if off while you are harvesting... it won't take as long to go back into veg.

deffinitely seems like it might have merit for someone with a mj card.

i always thought the reason they did that was to encourage another branch, i remember seeing that in a book

It might just work woman are good at gardening so can't see why not.A cannabis plant is no differant to any other plant when it come's to cloneing i have a neat little tweak i take mt clone and make the 45 degree cut under water this stops air getting trapped in stem i have a geat success rate now.But you tell him girl.

good point

I know ppl only have so many cuttings to cut with small grows so that makes them a little more precious, but I worked in a nursery many years ago where they simply dipped fresh cuttings of vines into powder and planted them right into liners with 85% success. No sitting in water for a week or wrapping the vine  Just straight in...of course in a nursery, time is money so.... but next time you do cuttings, take one and put it straight in the soil after dipping it in powder. You might be surprised at the success rates....

i have seen the same technique used on roses. but with damp paper towel and aluminum foil.
learned it froma mexican gardener in PV mexico.

This happens a lot in nature. Its the way grapevines spread.
thats exactly what i was thinking.

i wonder how a plant would do if you did this method on say 10 lower branches of your plant but instead of taking clones, leave them attached and plant them in the same soil as your "mother". obviously you would need a big bucket for soil...

theoretically your one plant would have 10x the root mass as a normal plant allowing it to suck up much more nutrients and water. it would be a true bush and just like any other plant, the bigger the roots, the larger and healthier the plant:weed:

might work very well for a mother and speeding up her growth?

CrackerJax,

It's amazing how easy some things can be cloned. When I worked the college's greenhouse when I was an undergrad, and took all the plant courses we had. We learned tissue culture (fun) as one form of cloning and didn't spend much time on "Takin' a cutting" because the directions were. step 1. use rootone step 2. put cutting into damp starter mix. step 3. put in greenhouse

:-P

I did all sorts of things like banana trees, many cash flowers, and rubber plants...I blame the easiness ont he rootone.

Absolutely, and just like people, some can be abused more than others...

My view is that weed is intentionally given more care than it needs. I'm sure there are folks out there growing that even put on the botanical white jacket when they administer their care.... but honestly.... it's a friggin weed.... no need to go crazy with methodologies..... plant it and step back!!

Of course there is a lot of do-re-me in making ppl think weed is some sort of mystery. IT'S A WONDER, not a mystery. weeee.... good luck
