Well, this one is the only myth I have the experience and knowledge to debunk with certainty.Damn, im a little disappointed. I just thought this was going to be more then just 1 myth trying to be busted..
I'm pretty suspicious of the claim that repotting multiple times will make a plant grow faster because the roots fill out the container quicker, then the plant directs energy into growing out. I don't doubt that the processes behind this theory have some validity, but I wonder if you look at the whole grow from germination to harvest, if it really makes a difference. Seems there are factors that might equal the field and erase anything gained by temporary growth spurts.
If the repotting is not timed correctly, the plant in a small container can suffer from crowding and be slowed. Each time it is potted, growth is slowed. Every time growth is slowed, nutrient uptake is slowed. This would be a very tough one to do an apples-to-apples test, but I would bet the seedling planted directly into the 10g pot is going to grow as well as the one that goes into two other containers first.
