Or perhaps just another lighting question. :fire:

I have a 600w HPS over my 4 plants right now and would like to get more light downstairs without having to cut leaves or keep moving them. Lately ive been thinking of adding some extra light,be it cfl,t5 or more HID,and can't make up my mind. As of now im thinking a 250w HPS/MH light hung at an angle down on the side of the plants (i rotate plants daily) but i dont know about heat output and all that. So i was wondering if anyone runs something similar or maybe just has input of any sort on this setup.

Couple of few :?:'s....1)how much heat do those lights put off? 2)how would i cool it? 3)if i have to run another fan too cool it should i not just get an aircooled 400w setup? 4)if my exhaust fan that also cools my 600w HPS is rated at 450+ CFM and i also run 3 fans for circulation,do i need to worry about the heat from the 250? (All of this is in a 4x4x7 tent)
5)what about 125-250w CFL lights? 6)T-5's?

If youd like you could check my journal and see what you think. Please let me get some help on this so i could make a purchase in the next few days, thanx. Sorry folks for the deception:roll: ,had to get your attention somehow.

A 600 should be more than efficient for 4 plants, did u veg them real tall? If your plant got big accidentally I wouldn't spend money for something you aren't going to repeat. If you plan to do things the same with big plants then maybe add another 600 or upgrade to a 1000.

Yeah they got kind of tall but more bushy. The fan leaves are just everywhere so i wanted to get a light that would focus on the bottom half of the plants. Thanx for the input,it certainly makes sense.

You could throw a 250 at the bottom with not to many heat issues. I run 600w HID and around 200w of side lighting in my 4x4 tent or I run a 1kW light - neither have heat issues paired with a similar 440cfm fan running at just 1/3 speed. CFLs are great at spot lighting as well as T5s. Personally I think CFLs > T5s in bud production but T5s are much more convenient to use. I use my side lighting to supplement UV and it works wonders.

if i were you id just LST or SCROG but if you really want to throw in more lights, im sure some CFLs at the bottom wouldnt hurt. a 600w HPS should be more than enough though :)

Thanx all for ypur insight. At this point im leaning toward a couple 125w CFL or the single 250W HPS/MH to finish off this grow. Being my first time i just want to get as good of harvest as possible. Next grow i know what to do (thanx to RIU members) so that i wont have this problem again. Im not really worried about the cost of the light beacuse i found some on craigslist and ill use whatever i get as a veg light later on.
