definitely subscribing. had any luck with the height difference yet? I have 6 WW plants and they were all germinated, planted, everything the same exact day. and the difference between my tallest and shortes plant is almost 6 inches. one is the tallest is 12 and the other medium ones are about 9-10 and the smallest is 6.5...
I haven't noticed too much of a height difference yet, but some plants are definitly growing at a faster pace then others. The WHITE WIDOW and LEMON SKUNK are growing the fastest, followed by LA WOMAN..and LEMON HAZE and HIMALAYAN GOLD are the slowest for sure.

Question for you guys...when leaves around the bottom of the plant start to die and get crusty due to lack of light...should I remove them? Do I remove just the leaves, or the stem they are growing on?

Thanks guys! I'll keep you all updated daily on how these guys are doing. Today was very warm and humid on the East Coast...so they air that is being sent into my tent is keeping the humidy level up (which is rare in the winter). ;-)

Hard to say whats wrong with the super lemon. this happens when growing different strains, you cant really tweak the res to the plant cause you have different strains. Also could be you just got a runt.

I say grow what you can grow. Dont get it next time.

Leaves will never turn yellow from lack of light, that is a myth
Leaves turn yellow and crispy when they are under fed if it is the bottom leaves

Great, thanks for the advice man. I've strengthened my nutes from 350ppm to 575 ppm...in the past 48 hours they've grown like motherfukas and the stems have doubled in thickness. The lower leaves have started to 'green up' and newer growth is greener then ever!

Maaan guys - I'll post pics later. These ladies are f'n huge now! The stems are thicker then my thumbs and fan leaves are HUGE! I'm starting to loose horizontal space now. The leaves from different plants are now over-laping each other...I haven't even started flowering yet and things are already looking crowded...is there anything I can do? I want to keep my plants large to max my yield...but want to avoid problems caused by crowding as much as possible.

Man these suckers have grown! Almost flower time!

Okay ... wow things have changed

LEMON SKUNK - Doing well...throgh all of the PH changed and NUTE changes, the Lemon Skunk has continued to grow at a steady pace. I'm hoping she will start to grow more vertically soon as Im running out of horizontal room quickly.

LA WOMAN - Growing well...VERY bushy! Has had a sprout since I was able to lower the PH from 6.4 down to 5.9.

HIMALAYAN GOLD - Growing much slower, but looking better lately. The leaves are verrrry yellow...yet all levels seem fine (PH, TDS, HEAT, HUMIDITY) ... any suggestions?

WHITE WIDOW & SUPER LEMON HAZE - These have been my fastest growers....yet in the past 4 or 5 days they have become VERY droopy. Around the bottom half of the stems there are lots of new branches starting to sprout...and I have lots of growth coming underneath what you can see in these pics. What should I do to help these perk up???

Its a tough decision to make...i have a few plants that are growing great...do I make changes to help other plants and put them in danger? I guess when I decided to grow 5 strains together I should have expected this eh?

Do you guys have any suggestions to help with horizontal crowding? Can I do sme pruning yet to help these grow UP and not OUT?

Thanks guys

Hi Nasty. Scribed.

I have a few pointers for you and a couple things to point out that should help you on your maiden hydro voyage.

1st. That 1000W is WAY to close for your plants veg needs. On the plus side its been that way since the beginning and they are still alive so there is prolly no reason to raise it now. What that has caused is a really high rate of N intake as the plants try to keep up with all the energy they are being hit with. The high N intake rate requires a rather high Mg % in the fert to keep up. Moral of the story ... you have a mg deff. I see you recently upped the nute load. Are you using the GH schedule (crap)? Ever heard of the Lucas Formula?

I'm glad to see you went with a basic GH fert line. All the snake oil additives are crap. If you supply the plant with good basic nutrition (adequate amounts of NPK MG S Ca and the micros) then the plant will make all the amino acids and vitamins it needs naturally.

Ow wow, thanks for the info man (+ Rep) :weed:

If the light is too close (and has been for the first 30 days or so), would it hurt to back it away a bit now? The leaves also feel a little..."papery" ..could this because of the proximity to the light?

How should I deal with this Mg Deff? Is there a Mg supplement I can add? Is there a way to test it before I add a supplement?

Sorry for all the Q's, I just really want to get this right

Thanks again for the help! :weed:

Nah, leave the light where it is now. No benefit from moving it at this point. They are old enough now to be that close. The papery feel to the leaves is caused by the deff as well. N deff. Mg is required for N uptake so a mg deff will lead to N deff. They are all tied together but N and Mg have a closer relationship than most other nutrients. You did up the nutes in the last few days so that will probably help some. At 30+ days they are probably old enough to handle 8ml/micro 16ml/bloom per gallon (winds up about 950PPM + whatever your tap is). The 8ml/micro/gallon will supply plenty of Mg. No other supplements needed.

The mix above 8/16 is the basic lucas formula derived years ago after exhaustive research and works well with most Mj... http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/fourtwenty/articles/profiles.htm . If you do wind up with a deff during any phase with this mix it will, once again, be a N deff as it is a low N feed but we can cross that bridge if/when we get there.

You are ahead of the curve when it comes to hydro101 ;) The plants needs are really basic in the end.

The nutes I added the other day were 12 - 10 - 5! I've already toppedoff my res with 2 gallons of fresh (PH balanced) water since. Should I add more bloom NOW, then start the lucas formula during my next NUTE addition? Or should I wait until I do a full nute change?

Thanks again!

If you've added back 2 gallons fresh water your PPM is even lower now. The mix your using (i assume that was ml/gallon of grow-micro-bloom) should be fine for veg actually. I would think that it would give you more than about 600PPM tho. hmm. Whats your current PPM? That will tell us if you need to add anything.

Grow 2-1-6
Micro 5-0-1
Bloom 0-5-4

in a 12-10-5 mix of these per gallon your effective NPK solution is 134-62-102. That's actually a pretty good balance for veg.

P.S. Lucas formula was derived trying to find a good balance with minimal effort. A good balance is the key in the end. How you get there is kind of unimportant.

Good to know

Thanks for all your help. I checked the PPM and I'm sitting at just under 600PPM (13 gallon RES). I'm considering adding 60-80 ML of Bloom to help my deff and start the lucus method.

A few more things to note:

-Im using water filtered through a BRITA water attachment on my tap. Comes out at 7PH, then I PH lower it to my desired level. Current Res PH is 5.9
-My Hydro unit is the GH RainForrest. Its a DWC with a vortex sprayer that lifts and oxygenates water, and sprays a fine mist on the bottom of the hydro buckets. Now that the plants have a GREAT root system (my res is FULL of roots) should i stop the vortex sprayer?

Thanks again man

No way man keep that sprayer going throughout the grow
If you disconnect that you are just going to be left with an overpriced DWC system for the rest of the grow
Keep it in there for sure

Okay cool. The only thing that scares me is the spinning vortex sprayer. When I look in my res the roots are wrapped around this thing....its constantly spinning and tangling things up...i just dont want to damage the root system. Thanks Tom

Sup SirNasty.. lovely selection there +rep

Oh and yes look after dem roots, maybe a lil diy mod to protect ur roots :joint:

yup, 600 is prolly a little bit low. When are you scheduled to change it out?

If the sprayer is getting tangled it may be causing more harm than good. I'm not familiar with the kit so I cant comment directly tho. Do the dircetions mention anything about it?

When you run out of GH nutes, look into these. They are cheap and the most complete (Macros + Micros)

It will be fine, I have chopped my root mass in half before on a mother plant in DWC and there was no ill effects

Okay - Im leaving it on for now. I'll keep an eye on things as I move forward and start flowering.

Any suggestions on how to help these ladies grow UP and not OUT? They're getting bushy and my grow sites are close together. I've read up on Super Cropping and ways to focus most of the plants energy on ONE Main COLA...Can I still get good yields this way? Is it too early to start thinking about this?

tom__420

Supercropping would make your plants grow more outwards instead of up
Usually people want their plants to bush out and not up
Leaving the plants untrained will result in one main cola
